after letting go of 150 of my hats and being left with about 7 pieces something became crystal clear to me.

it became very clear as to what styles I actually desire to own and wear ... what I really like.

once the choice was limited and the towers of boxes that filled my studio were gone it came down to two styles that I truly care about

mid ribbon raw edge fedoras ... preferably unlined
and thin ribbon "western" style a la Open Road

of the 150 hats there are two I regret selling ... an OPS era blue Dobbs Cross Country and a circa 1940 grey unlined Playboy

live and learn

not even sure why I'm sharing this ... I think I just needed to type it out for my own psyche

thanks for listening

Well now that you have turned your herd out to paster...I do think you will still have that "bitten by the hat bug" continue. Whom ever was lucky to have any of your collection, made out like bandits! Great hats from a very wonderful person, a formula for many "holy grails"....

I remember that when Moon first posted his "selling everything in my entire collection" announcement he said he didn't post it in Classifieds because it would be buried among all the non-hat adds.
I noticed it at 2 a.m., about 40 minutes after the OP, and by then many, if not most of them were already taken. I keep wishing I had seen it sooner.

With all the lids, knowledge, lids, "friends," and lids he gathered while hanging around here, (did I mention lids) it just didn't seem fair to me, either. Short memory, apparently, but the die has been cast.

I never thought of it in terms of fairness, just in "lucky or unlucky."
I am sure Anthony must have given the best choices to his friends, or the people he had most contact or dealings with in the Lounge. I would have. In my case I owe Bowen, Mike, Steven, Daniele, Stefan and Brent a lot for their advice, guidance, and generosity, so naturally if I ever sell my hats I would offer them first pick.
Not that any of them would ever fit Brent, though. :)

Maybe I missed something reading English or American language and some passages are almost obscure, but a collection of hats is a collection of hats. There is not "the collection of hats", perhaps the one at the Borsalino museum in Alessandria or others scattered around the world, but there are very few. Personally I can say that it is one of the many interests in my life as an old Italian gentleman. I buy and sell the hats that interest me, even those not of my size when they become a reason for interest, being aware that, listen well, they have been produced in at least a hundred copies, others in thousands and still others in hundreds of thousands. Everything else said, whispered, shouted about hats, consumer good, now forgotten, is popular theater. Nothing more and nothing less.

"Popular Theater". I like that expression, maestro.
