I scored a Luciano Barbera windowpane from Saks the other day for AUD30. One of the finest suits exported from Italy.

Pretty much all of my suits were purchased at thrift stores, I don't have photos of all of them right now, but here are a few that I have photos of that I took a while back.

I've also got a nice pin striped navy blue three piece suit that I got for about twenty bucks at a local thrift store and a couple of others that I don't wear as much because they don't look as good as some of my more recent purchases. I'm hoping to find a good thrift store here in the Las Vegas area now that I live out here.

I just about came home with a Tommy Hilfiger sportcoat, just couldn't take the plunge...it was a houndstooth, but instead of the normal black and white or gray and black, it was a white background with red, blue and black houndsteeth...it was a 3 button, center vent. I just couldn't wrap my head around where on earth I'd ever wear such a thing, and what pants to match it with, so I passed.

I just found one NOS still tagged probably late 60s from the lapels. Looked like someone bought it on a whim and never wore it. 40R....not my size.

Found this jacket yesterday, I find the pattern odd for a 1940's jacket the union label in the pocket I can just make out a copyright 1940.

Hit the goodwill in town; it's been a goldmine of stuff. Passed on a few jackets but picked up a Towncraft suit, "Executive" branded and made by Hart, Shaffer, Marx in the late 1990s. $10!

The Salvation Army in town was good, but has lately been afflicted with what I call the "special pricing syndrome". Anything worth anything, or potentially worth anything, is "specially priced". I haven't bought anything from there in a few weeks. The Goodwill has much better stuff anyway (Alan Edmonds Loafers for $3.00)

Not Goodwill, but I don't know anywhere else to post this. I found a two button, two piece subtly pinstriped custom made suit from 1986. Navy blue. Not Golden Era styled, but it does have a distinct hourglass shape to it. Fits me like a glove! And it doesn't look like it's ever been worn; it was hidden in a downstairs closet. The best part of all: it cost me $2! The original price from the estate people listed it at $18, but they lowered the prices on all the clothing as the sale drew to a close. I'll get pics up one of these days...

I've taken to buying up vintage attire at thrift stores even if it doesn't fit me and couldn't be made to through any reasonable effort, mostly to have it to barter or give away.

But I have scored several vintage (early '50s through mid-'60s) jackets and suits for my own use of late. Tuesday of this week I found two jackets (one '50s, the other '60s, both of which fit well as is) at Value Village for about eight bucks a pop, if I'm remembering right, and that evening at the Goodwill a way swingin' late-'50s/early-'60s dark blue with black sports jacket which I really, really wish fit me because it's sooo nice, and this pair of genuine AE's, which fit fine, I'm pleased to report. Set me back $7.99 plus tax.

Great find on the AEs...Value Village had a pair for $6.99 yesterday, but they were 13Ds and I wear 12D...darn it!

Yesterday, at my favorite little thrift shop (which shall remain nameless), an old Dobbs Cross Country in very nice shape. It was marked at $7 on a white tag, and white tags were 25 percent off, so I was out the door for $5.70 with the state and local sales taxes.

The Cross Country was Dobbs's entry into the market segment shared with the Stetson Playboy -- a lightweight, unlined, "casual" fedora. This particular one is black and was priced at $5 when new (yes, the tag is still on the underside of the sweatband) and was sold at Filene's (Boston, right?). Problem is, it's a size 7, which is well under my size. I doubt I'll ever block it up to fit because I don't wish to de-vintage-ify it. So it's barter material, I suppose.

Nothing wrong with having barter-able items...my local Value Village moved next to an antique mall a couple of weeks ago, and I've been doing better finding cool stuff at the antique mall than Value Village.

If I wore about a 9.5 or 10 shoe I'd be all set, but my big 12Ds make it tricky to find shoes at thrift shops. There were a couple of pairs of 14AAA shoes recently at one store, they looked more like waterskis than shoes.

That black saddle is a deleted style which makes it all the more worthwhile.
