Glamorous Brooding

I like to indulge in a good session of brooding, perhaps melancholy now and again. Does anyone have any suggestions for being blue, retro style such as any particular music (I know Sinatra is a must), settings, attire, etc? I like to do Golden Age as well as Victorian...

Get Boulevard of Broken Dreams' boxed set, that's a whole weekend of brooding. Duke Ellington's Indigoes might work. A lot of Artie Shaw is magnificently brooding to me, though your mileage may vary.

Don't forget to drink a lot and smoke too much. :)

PS BBD can be found here: http://www.wga.org/uploadedFiles/news_and_events/101_screenplay/101press.pdf

Thanks. :) My problem is that I don't drink or smoke anymore, but I do like a good Dairy Queen Blizzard.

I just reread this. That's funny- I wrote that it's a problem that I don't drink or smoke! :eusa_doh: It's not,except for brooding purposes.

You gotta accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative,........and don't mess with Mr. Inbetween!

Nah, occasional melancholy is good for my creative edge. I don't stay there, it propels me forward. ;)

First, get the soundtrack for "Bridges of Madison County" and play the Johnny Hartman tracks.
I suggest the book Lincoln's Melancholy by Joshua Wolf Shenk as a look into how a pro broods - and how the 19th century had a far better understanding of depression than we, especially in relation to romanticism and creativity.

Coleman Hawkins' Body and Soul (as heard in the Color Purple) can get you going. Artie Shaw's Begin the Beguine is good for the trip back to the surface, along with a cloudy day, a porch swing and, well, bourbon.

I am *sad* to say that I am thrilled at the moment!

Thank you for that MP3 Cousin Hepcat! I am listening right now (actually on my third time. ;)) Absolutely haunting. It's perfect.

Scotrace- Thank you for that book recommendation. I just checked my local Borders and it's in stock! Lincoln is my favorite president and to learn more about him and Victorian brooding makes me happy. :)

Thanks, herringbonekid.

I wonder that no one mentioned Billie Holliday! I don't even think that it matters which song you hear, it's just her (beautiful) voice..... There's so much sadness in this voice
