Scotrace- Thank you for that book recommendation. I just checked my local Borders and it's in stock! Lincoln is my favorite president and to learn more about him and Victorian brooding makes me happy. :)

Are you spending the rainy New England weekend curled up with a good book then?

Proper lighting around you is a MUST! Lots of angles and shadows. Oh, and a wonderful, long lounging wrapper to wear while you curl up and gaze about. And don't forget a drop or two of some long-admired scent applied to your wrists with the little glass dropper....And, since alcohol is out, a piece or two of obscenely decadent chocolate...like you just don't care. You have to get ALL your senses into it to make some sense OUT of it!

If you really want to go all the way, turn off everything but a lamp and wear black sunglasses indoors. Then you'll feel like you're in a film noir movie.

Ahh brooding.....my speciality!!
Out of season now, but last Holiday season, I was miserable. Nothing like sitting alone in front of your Christmas tree, playing WWII era music "I'll Be Home For Christmas", and the like. Or some of the later vocal harmony groups like The Orioles "It's Gonna Be a Lonely Christmas", and other ones in that genre.
And yes, for year round heartache, it's gotta be Sinatra!
Cryin' on the inside,

being an country boy...i kinda like some classic Hank Williams...

"I'm so lonesome I could cry...."

whiskey or beer...either one

willie nelson sings one with the lines:

she is gone
but she is still here
her prescence is hanging heavy in the air.....

anyone with a memory can brood to that...

Oh prettysquaregal, do I know what you mean............

In addition to Sinatra's Wee Small Hours, Carly Simon's version of it on the
Sound Track Sleepless in Seattle, is also heartwrenching.

The sax lullabye, my dear prettysquaregal. Nothin helps set the mood for brood like the ol' sax lullabye. Used sometimes for the passion that reaches
its peak in a scene of intimacy, or for when.........you've hit rock bottom.

From the Fabulous Baker Boys Soundtrack,
give a listen to Suzie and Jack, referring to characters portrayed by Jeff
Bridges and Michelle Pfieffer.

Yeah, heads already down on the table, ala bogie from Casablanca.

Might want to try David Sanborn's sax version of Carpenter's Superstar...
