S. & J. Fraenkel Wien, size 57cm, brim 2 1/4 inches, crown 5 1/2 open, probably 1930s, excellent condition. This is the first WWII or older S. & J. Fraenkel Wien I have come across so rare and it's a metal gray Velour (actually a subtle mix of colors) which makes it especially fantastic. It's a larger 57cm so actually fits which is an added bonus. The Echter Velour felt on this one is of the finest quality. The felt and form is very similar to my JHS Superior Crystall Velour.

I was very happy to come across this S. & J. Fraenkel Wien Velour. I have come across many 1960s Fraenkel Wien hats but no older ones like this.

You are 100% right about needing to feel the felts, and see them in person. Those German and Austrian hats are some of the best felts I have ever experienced.

There were two tickets under the sweatband... place numbers for the racecourse or theater?

in alten Zeiten musste man Hüte, Mäntel etc. an der Garderobe abgeben, wenn man ins Theater/Kabarett etc. ging; dafür bekam man kleine Zettelchen wie diese, mit denen man seine Kleidungsstücke wieder auslösen konnte. Ich nehme an, dass die Zettelchen im Hut genau dafür dienten.
