Up for sale we have a very nice rare and collectible jacket - a Kit Karson horsehide motorcycle jacket circa 1950, tag size is 40.
Kit Karson was a prolific mid-twentieth century American company that manufactured an outstanding array of high quality jackets. This jacket is a quintessential example of mid 20th century American motorcycle culture - extremely high quality horsehide leather, amazing inner wool lining, heavy duty moleskin fabric pockets all intact, French seams along the sleeves, military grade snaps and zippers, heavy duty miser belt buckle. It's no wonder that this jacket has been reproduced by modern-day Japanese manufacturers, but nothing beats an original.
Based on the tag, materials and constructions, I believe this to be either a late 1940s or very early 1950s production.
Condition is best seen in the wide array of photos I have uploaded. The jacket is in overall good condition with some points to note:
-All original zippers and snaps that function well
-Original studwork along the unique elongated epaulettes
-Signs of use throughout the leather, but no significant damage
-Right sleeve zip has come unstitched but still functions
-One or two loose seams along the underside of the right sleeve - does not affect wearability
-Some distressing of the red wool lining, as pictured
-Some loose seams along the underside of the belt, does not affect function
The original tag size of 40 remains, but please see photos for actual measurements. Please allow a small degree of discrepancy due to human error.
The unique construction of the gusseted underarms may suggest that this jacket fits around a 22" chest, depending on where you measure from. May actually fit a bit larger than a 40, but please use your own judgement.
Please note that I have exhibited this rare jacket as best I can with the photos we are allotted. As this is a true vintage piece, other signs of use should be expected. If you have any questions at all, please reach out prior to purchasing.
Price is $550 shipped in U.S. via Zelle or PayPal Friends and Family. Shipped quickly upon payment.
