Actually, though, I was wondering as to what the original hats they used/weathered for the films. I can't seem to find any info on them (with the possible exception of spotty info on the part 1 hat).

Authentically, Freddy's hat was probably something he picked up at the neighborhood discount shop. Probably a ratty, low-grade wool felt. Before he became a creepy undead-demon-dream-zombie-thingy he was a creepy blue-collar maintenance worker, so he probably didn't have the money (or taste) to drop a pretty penny on something decent.

Out of curiosity, what is the spotty info you've got on the hat in Part 1? Inquiring minds (and horror movie addicts) need to know!

According to Freddy legend, it was an older hat that he found in a dumpster that he decided to wear.

The part one hat was selected by Robert England because it was an Indiana Jones type hat and he liked the idea of this creepy burnt guy having this really cool hat. Also, Robert was a fan of Cagney so he wanted Freddy to have a bit of that look to him. Over the years I have heard that Freddy's part 1 hat was anything from a Whippet to a Borsalino.

Most of Freddy's hats seemed to have similar dimensions, as well.

i was wondering if you could help me out. do you think you could identify a fedora worn by robert englund in a nightmare on elm street part 2. or if you could point me in the right direction where i can get one similar

I'd say Ebay's your best bet. Find an older brown hat with about a 5" crown and 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 brim. If it's too pristine, beat it up.
Now, where do we get the "claws"?
