Footwear to go with our jackets

Might be a daft question; does anybody wear trainers with their leather jacket?

Trainers, sneakers, running shoes, wev.

I watched a Jason Statham film this afternoon and he wore a pair of New Balance all the way through. Not military or tactical or heritage leather boots. New Balance trainers.

Just the shoes alone made him look not like an action hero, just like some bloke.

Nope. Never. But i pretty much only wear them at all when exercising. To each their own and all that, but i find their ubiquity amongst grown men….disappointing. For instance at a nice restaurant.

I actually wear whatever is there if I'm quickly going out, and that is quite often trainers. Leather jackets are versatile, you can wear them with a lot o things

You can still look out of ordinary with trainers, just go with out of ordinary trainers such as this for example:

Physically, I am very active and in over five years, I haven't once wore a pair of those bubonic sheaths of molten plastic, nor did I ever found myself in a situation where I thought they would perform better than a pair of good lighter leather shoes.

But yeah, wearing these boots all the time is also unbearable and of course people want to take a break from all the pain and suffering they bring by going as far as possible in the opposite direction.

There's this homeless-by-choice guy local to the town that I live in, who walks around in layered plastic bags, wrapped around his feet. People often offer to buy him shoes and some indeed do, which he always (rudely) rejects.
One cold autumn day, I was sitting alone outside a cafe and he engaged me in a conversation after we both, in unison turned our heads to look at a woman walking past, about we have demonstrated that there is no free will (I argued that while perhaps automatic, our reaction was possible only because it was inconsequential & thus of free will).
The matter of plastic bags arose after he, naturally, complimented my shoes and I asked him what's up with that. He said it is an act of penance for something he had done for which there is no forgiveness, adding, after a brief pause, that it's also exactly like wearing sneakers.

This is something I think about at least once a day.

I like that.

To the more blunt discussion about sneakers: there’s also the ones made of actual leather, with a leather insole and an approximation of a footbed. I have a few pairs of them, and find myself wearing them very occasionally.

Thing is, my feet are nice to me and rarely if ever give me blisters or sores. Thus, a well made proper shoe/boot actually is more comfortable to me than a pair of wobbly, unstructured sneakers that give me zero foot or ankle support.

Have not bought another pair of White's after seeing the "inconsistency" on my first. Then found this pair made for Japanese market that is of much better workmanship.

Outside of the ‘Rugged Heritage Workwear’ set, sneakers with leather jackets are pretty common (Jerry Seinfeld style or maybe 80s/90s Lou Reed).

Personally, I like wearing sneakers to run in for the extra cushion and ankle flexibility, but I prefer boots for walking and standing in - for the ankle support and more anatomical arch and footbed.

I've always tended towards boots rather than trainers, even in my youth. Unless I'm actually doing sport, which is an increasingly rare situation now.

I have a few pairs of trainers, but they're more the "retro"-flavoured canvas sort, Converse, old school (skool) Vans, Superga, wev. I don't have any modern running shoe-type trainers.

But unless it's a blazing hot day or I'm in shorts, I'll almost exclusively be wearing boots. Even for something quick and comfy to grab, I'll reach for Clarks Chelsea boots.

All that said, I'm mostly not wearing heritage leather jackets anyway. I'll be in canvas or waxed cotton usually.

Not a trainer guy either although I own a pair of all black Adidas I've worn twice in 3 years haha nearest I have is a pair of Clarks fitted slip on sneakers with a thicker rubber sole, boots I'm always in

Found a pair of house slippers. Quite not kidding. These are the heaviest duty pair of house slippers I have ever seen.



Very well broken in Wesco 7500's. Softer then you could imagine.

I can wear them all day inside, but with the rather smooth Vibram outsole on them, I really should not be wearing them in icy/snowy conditions outside. I "get" the appeal of a well loved, well broken in pair of Engineers now. Nothing approaches the comfort I find in these boots. Better yet, they have very good arch support and keep the feet "just" warm enough in the cold months.

I'm in Barcelona for a couple days and I've passed by Carmina to check their Jodhpurs. I've got mostly American boots and a pair of Australian, but nothing Spanish or even European. I don't like engineer boots and I had been thinking that Jodhpurs could very well be the only piece missing in my boot collection.

Some pics, I was wearing some GStar cargo pants as I came in my comfy tourist mode but it is what it is. Size is 9.5 (I guess UK?), which fit me well as I usually wear 10.5 in US sizing when it comes to boots. This is their Rain last, I also tried another last (don't recall the name - edit: Forest) but I thought it didn't fit my feet greatly:

The leather sole is way too slippery for my taste, it's better now but when new I felt like I was walking on ice.
Granted I don't have much experience with these kind of soles I also feel like they wear out pretty fast.

This is my favourite Carmina last (from the 4 I have owned). Love the chiseled toe.

I discovered them in the mid 90's after reading an interview by MDB's Aaron Stainthorpe about what a great influence they were to them, especially during their 'Turn Loose the Swans' period.

I saw them in a festival in 05 or 06 and really enjoyed the set but somehow never got back to them.
I reckon Turn Loose the Swans is a good place to start ?
