Footwear to go with our jackets

Sendra are very much on my hit list for some harness boots already, and there's a couple of pairs of their cowboy boots I rather fancy. I still have my old Underground black suede Beatle Boots / Winklepickers somewhere. They were bought years ago when I regularly dressed as RiffRaff (before I gained the weight, now I'd look like Bill Bailey after a very rough lost weekend in Ibiza in that gear...). Can sort of see 'em here:

Also used to wear them in costume as Richard O'Brien's Maxime (I'm about a foot taller and three feet wider than him!):

Very nice boots if you're looking for that sixties Beatle Boot vibe. I found I got used to the heel pretty quick. They do 'em in suede, leather, patent... The only thing with the UG ones is I wish I'd gone a size up from my usual, as they really are tight. Noticed this especially three or four stone after these photos were taken. Must have put a bit of weight on my feet too, as they seemed even smaller then somehow - not something I've ever otherwise experienced with shoes. Treat their UK as US sizes is my experience. Otherwise, lovely boots. Mine will eventually go on eBay; we've had a lot of adventures together, but I can't keep everything for sentimentality's sake. If I can shift the belly again, I have a hunch (sewn into that tailcoat) that I'll be back in another pair at some future point...

Nah, I had to call time on the drainpipes in the end. Looks so good once your waist measurement is a foot more than your inside leg they do not... and I'll never be back in a 34" waist again.

Jeffry West are quality stuff. Very gothic feel to them, which I like. I can imagine Dave Vanian wearing a lot of their stuff during his goth years. The only shame to them is that the undersides of their soles are so lovely, it seems a shame to walk on them almost. I wish I'd had the scratch for a pair of their Chap brogues when they did them; the cloven heel was a lovely touch.

I know, I have always been into tight stretch jeans as a thrasher. However... (the photos below have to be corrected, I wore my tight jeans almost to my 40's).

Acorn Calf, Kudu Reverse, Aniline Calf, Olivvia Black = all excellent choices! I am also a big fan of the 4444 Henry Chelsea boots. They are the most versatile and well-built boots. I am still missing a dark brown for my Henry collection. Waiting for their Christmas sale. The core line up never goes on sale except Christmas time from their stockists. Tricker's are more Scotland than London/Paris in terms of styles. But their build quality is just as good as Lobb or Edward Green or JM Weston in my opinion, and cost less. I am waiting for the Bank Holiday additional 20 off to pick up a few more from their factory store. Lol.

Did you receive this pair? What last is it made in? Does it fit?

The Quilp looking Trickers are made on 5090 last. I have never experience this one before. It's similar to 13187 last but even bigger and wider toe box. Unfortunately it's a tad shorter (maybe 1/8") than the same size in the 4444 last. But it was on their sample sale page and I think I can use my stretcher to get that extra 1/8" just in my right foot. I would say go up half size from your 4444 last size for the best fit. This is really the same rule for all Tricker's I find.

That looks spectacular, Edward!! I was more or less a regular in the Saturday night showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (with audience participation…) at the Prince Charles mid nineties. Would never have dared to dress up, though. Mighty impressed!!

That looks spectacular, Edward!! I was more or less a regular in the Saturday night showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (with audience participation…) at the Prince Charles mid nineties. Would never have dared to dress up, though. Mighty impressed!!

You must have just missed me by a couple of years... I moved to London in 1999 and was involved with the last incarnation of the Charming Underclothes; did two years of the weekly show, the last eighteen months as Riff Raff and the MC, then a glorious near-decade as the MC and Frank'n'Furter in Less Vulnerable. (If you ever catch the Blu Ray extras, I'm interviewed on there somewhere in a fifties vintage suit... ha...). Not been so active on the scene this last ten years or so, but itching to get back there. Love the stage show, too.

Posted these pics a week or two ago, RDTs on the left. My experience with them is mixed. Overall I like them and am glad I have them. But the cork soles with metal taps on the front did not really work for me -- the metal taps were VERY slippery, and the original heel too tall for me. So I had them resoled with Vibram squishy soles, which I like. Then too, the stitching that held the vamps to the uppers (I think, though I may have that terminology wrong) began to unravel early and the shoes were basically coming apart. You can see where I had metal rivets installed to fix that. Others have had the same problem. The CXL shows wear pretty quickly, as expected and most people like that. But also, you can see how the unstructured toes get dented pretty quickly too; again, it's kind of a cool feature if you are wearing them casually, but something to know.

So overall, I like the looks of them, but am disappointed in the quality of construction for the price.

Picked these up on eBay since I didn’t have any casual black boots and a black leather jacket on order- as new for $60 shipped. Made in the US, Vibram 700 sole and an EEEE width.

If I remember well some stock photo's I had seen years ago, the metal plates are not in level with the rest of the sole (flush mounted) but are screwed on top of the sole (ask any professional cobbler his opinion about that...), right?
As for the unravelling of the upper - it is either a sign of bad construction quality or you were unlucky and got a faulty pair. If you say others had the same issue, then they should either upgrade their quality or lower their prices.

Had them too (leather sole), and used them as my go-to "Moshpit" boots for rock shows. Indestructible. I never quite got used to the looks, though...

The weekly show came to an end in 2001. The PCC did start to show Rocky again on and off a couple of years later, BUT it was with the Singalonga operation and their "version" - not the 'true' fanshow. Controversial within the Rocky community at the time because they tried to get an exclusive deal with Fox which would have prevented anyone else from being allowed to do a Rocky screening in the UK - effectively killing the fan scene. Fortunately, the fan community screamed loudly enough about it that Fox backed off this, though even so SALA will never see a penny of my money as a result of that attempt. Not many fan shows left going at present, but they crop up here and there. I played Doctor Scott in a cast of veteran shadowcasters from all over the UK / US / Europe a couple of time in 2017-19, though that's been on hiatus since because of both Covid and Fox being funny about licences (the latter problem being that our preferred venue was regarded as a theatre, and while they could get the film to show, Fox were funny about the performing element - the old legal complications of different rights for the stage show (Rocky Horror Co London) and the film (Fox), and somebody somewhere not quite getting what it is we do....). I hope we'll be back, though. The last show we did was in the Rio on Dalston High St, Richard O'Brien's officially final ever 'appearance' in the UK. He was on lovely form that night, too.

Rocky at the PCC was my introduction to all sorts of London and Rocky joys - changing in a fire-escape behind the screen, hoping if some drunk peed against the outer door, it wouldn't seep in and down the stairs to us, getting night buses (for the first couple of weeks I paid cash, not knowing my TFL travelcard covered those!), walking to my then home on Errol St (round the corner from the Barbican) through the City at night.... My buses were the hourly (and often late) N243 past Old Street, or the N11, which took me to Liverpool Street. First time I saw a Fox in the wild was at 3am one Saturday morning on my way home, walking up Whitecross Street....

Very nice - what are they? Look like engineers, is there a buckle under your jeans there? The heel is a nice shape. Nicely raised and tones, but subtle too.

Thanks. They are made by Mason, who mostly make work boots. They are a Western boot, but I agree they look more look an engineer cross-over: Vibram sole and no ornamental stitching. Not too yee-haw!

Very nice, definitely subtle. Easily dressed up with a buckle harness thingy for western boots, and unadorned ideal for when you want something subtle. I like the rounder toe and Western heel combo - not something you see very often without going custom.

My B grade Grant Stone Diesel boots in Earth waxed suede came in today. They're actually really nice and appear to be in pretty good condition aside from a few small nicks in the leather. I can tell they're going to take some time to break in, but for my first pair of nicer boots, I'm pretty happy.

They use C.F. Stead's Waxy Commander Leather, and they seem to be built to a higher standard relative to other boots I have owned. That being said, My pair of Iron Rangers are much better traction wise with the Vibram 430 Sole, but I like these Grant Stones a lot as well.

Have a pair of these sat up at Aero to try on when I go up to collect my jackets, if they fit then they'll be coming back home with me.
According to the blurb they're made from exceptionally heavy Chromexcel Steerhide so should be quite substantial.
