Also, black is the way to go for that first engineer. That's what I'm doing. I ordered my FP engineers back in Sept and based on Peng's original estimates I was hoping to get them in February, but I've not heard anything from him so who knows where I'm at in his queue.
Black is the classic - and probably shifts faster used if you think you might end up passing them on in future. I think as long as I were sure of a good fit for me (no slight on the skill of the bootmaker; Engineers just seem to be very much something you just have to find the 'right' pattern for your own foot), I think I'd be led by the colour of the jackets I'd be most likely to wear it with. That's how I started on the multiple boot thing - first came brown and then oxblood leather jackets as well as the black ones, then boots had to match....

These are very nice indeed. Any more information? The red is a nice, unusual touch without being ott.
Motor gen 3. The most comfortable to wear engineer that i own. Last, size all perfect for me.

Very nice indeed - Japanese? (Nice jeans, too).
I was playing around on the Wesco site last night and discovered there's really very little price difference between a 'custom' pair and the stock offerings. I put together a draft of a pair of black boots, leather sole, red thread, clutch pads, brass buckles, two calf-straps, longer ankle strap.... A lot of options, and it came out around $600. Not ordering right now, but I can see how I could get hooked on those...
My latest discovery is Jeffrey West's new design, the Trobadour Boot:
A bit more of a pointy, Western toe than I would normally go for, but I've looking for some time for a boot that has a very easy zip & go fit with a nice aesthetic (I don't care for chelsea boots); this actually could well fit the bill. Penny loafers are great for air travel in warmer weather, but I'd prefer something more covering in Winter. Not cheap either, but cheaper than Wescos, and would still look good I think with my leathers. Only snag is there doesn't seem away to preserve those lovely sole-designs, but hey... Tempted by the idea of a factory visit once I have a big clear out, after the plague...
