Footwear to go with our jackets

^ in my case I left them slightly looser as there’s lots of leather there to break in, the tongue that folds on itself when lacing up, the kilties/false tongues that adds to the bulk plus the leather liner. I expect to be able to lace them tighter once broken in.

My first impression is that maybe the tongue could be less wide so that when lacing is not crumbling on itself.

My semi dress are not lined, and don’t have the kitties, and are shorter than the bounty hunters. I can see how that would all add up to a much tougher break in experience.

Interesting to see how yours wear in.

Here’s a few top down of mine in brown dress this morning. Even mine which have gotten a lot of wear do widen across the tongue as it gets closer to my ankle. Didn’t really notice til I took these.

Jacket is light tan Taylor Stitch Harrington. Didn’t have much time for pics, please forgive this experimental shot of jacket heh.

Yes, I found the fully gusseted tongue on my BH's to be unbearable. I ended up just cutting down the sides of the tongue myself to make, in effect, a partially gusseted tongue (as on the Semi Dress boots) and it was SO much better...

The Sagara cordmasters are one of the best looking monkey boots available, especially with this leather. Love the name that he gives it, "matcha core"

Love this. Thanks for sharing. Which soles are better the half or full soles?

I personally prefer the look of a halfsole over a fullsole. It keeps continuity in the heelbase and an overall cleaner look. If you wanted to think ahead, having a halfsole is much easier and less expensive to repair than the fullsole (less things to take apart)

Yep that matcha core moniker is catchy and quite beautiful when it starts to fade given the example on stitchdowns account. I just hope it fits me well.

Thanks for a smart tip, I've never had to resole a pair of boots so I've never had to think about that added cost.

I’ve seen it! The patina reminds of the Wesco knuckle dragger engineer from Standard and strange that had the olive waxed flesh. Hope they fit, I have a pair o ordered from Benzein and they are my best fitting pair of boots I have

The benzein I ordered is about half a size too big for me, wished Indonesian makers offer half sizes for those in between sizes. I don't how long it would take for rubber to dry rot, I think that would only be an issue if you were buying NOS footwear. The older stuff may have poorer quality rubber soles and sitting for enough time will usually lead to them cracking. Although older boots that have been somewhat worn seem to not have the issue with cracking. I personally wouldn't worry about soles cracking if you have a larger rotation, I mean unless you planned on keeping them for like 50 years then you may have cracking by then.

Here's a picture of them, still one of best engineers I've seen. They start out quite dark but the lighter green undertones are just amazing.
That's unfortunate that sizing didn't work out as nicely for you. At least there a bit big than too small, I'll always take the former any day.
I'd love to keep all my boots that long as well, I mean they are built to last a very long time especially when taken care.
