Quick question before I place my Benzein order tonight: is there any practical advantages between a full versus half sole (assuming heel stacks are even)? I’d it just aesthetics (when at ground level)?

These are older Luzern, as far as I could find out from 2018 or slightly older, paid 200,- bucks (what I found to be a fair price) in 2020 at a mid sized shoe shop chain.
As far as I know they moved their production to Spain meanwhile, what does not necessarily mean to be a disadvantage in my book.

Unbeatable price! 2018 should be the “Wiedeking-years”. I will try to get my hands on one of the new pairs and see about value/money.

I have basically the same boot from Flame Panda (same last, different leather) once with a full sole and once with a half sole.
I prefer the boot with the half sole. To me, break in was faster with the half sole and it is more confortable to walk from beginning with the half sole. And I prefer the aesthetic :)
In fact, I sent the Flame Panda with full sole to a special cobbler in Berlin to get it converted to half sole.

Half-sole construction makes it easier to replace a worn-out sole as it does not require disassembly of the heel stack.

Another pair on Benzeins from Instagram. Mine will hopefully be similar, with the new sleeker buckle, black Italian horsebutt, single full sole and strong woodsman heel with two extra lifts.

These are really gorgeous! I do wonder about the front though, as Benzeins don't seem to have a cap of any sort.

You can order them with or without the celastic toe. This will be my first pair of boots with a soft toe - I do like the look, but I’m still a little nervous as to how it will feel (squished toes?).

That's what would worry me, too. This kind of soft toe boots look much better than celastic toe when they're brand new but the worn-in results vary. Some begin to resemble a leather sock while others end up with a really great looking shape. I'd say size plays the most important part here.

i think it's all about preference for the side profile look. Granted a half sole is easier to resole but with multiple pairs of boots it will take years before there is any need to do so. they will source arakawa sangyo Japanese half sole with topy for my next project with them

I only like the half sole if there is a double midsole or single if the welt extends past the arch to show 2 layers of leather. Half soles with single midsole looks a little out of proportion to me.

I was just about to post this too!
I have such an obsession with my heels being perfect and have to always take my new boots to my local cobbler to sand the heels down and make them the same on each boot and bring them in nice and tight.

I am not sold on a 360 welt unless a red wing or similar boot but I really should have ONLY boots like this then I would not have to obsess about the heels being a little off you cant really mess the 360 welt up nice and even and straight all the way around
