Five Star Leather Jackets

Hi friends,

I’ve been lurking and browsing the forum posts because I think leather jackets are very stylish and cool! I decided to purchase my first leather jacket and after some cursory research, I thought Fivestarleather is a good choice for a budget starter option. I went ahead and placed my order back in mid February, and got an email yesterday that my jacket is ready to ship. They sent me a few pictures of the finished product. I was wondering if these two long marks on the jacket are normal? I apologize ahead of time for my lack of knowledge.
My Vanson in competition weight has simular scars ....I king of like it ( it adds character) .

Pretty new to leather jackets, and I'm thinking about ordering a custom from Fivestar. I want a jacket that fits me personally, and I like their black hides well enough from the photos.

The jacket I'm picturing is basically an Aero sheene, but with the hem of a highwayman (the horizontal stitch line just above the bottom) without the sidebuckles. And a slight, 10° angle to the chest pocket. Hopefully this goes well!

As soon as you start talking about a 10 degree angle I know you will be disappointed by anything you get from five star lol.

I thought about applying a layer of beeswax to the jacket to give it a certain shine. Anyone’s ever done that with goatskin? Where you happy with how it turned out?
Although I haven’t tried it on goatskin (I’ve used it on both horse and steer hide) Renapur Leather Balsam might well give you the finish you’re looking for on your jacket.
According to their blurb it’s a blend of a various natural ingredients, including beeswax, and applied quite sparingly. As always the recommendation is to try it on a small area first.

It would probably go a lot better if you ordered the Aero jacket you want from Aero.
£1264 is outside of my budget. But hopefully in the future. And I've never found an off the rack leather jacket that has fit me quite right, so going thrifting is not an option or at the very least it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. I need long sleeves, 27.2"-27.5", in a size 42.

Surely they know how angles work!

I don’t want to crap on 5 Star. They do make affordable products and some are decent. But I wouldn’t hold your breath about them understanding angles haha. If you’re going custom you have to provide every single measurement you could possibly imagine and dial it in within like .01cms. I wish that were hyperbole but based on the hundreds of posts and the builds from people who really know what they are doing…….if you leave anything to chance or their judgement it will come out wrong. Not to scare you and I am super price conscious myself….so I understand…….just make sure you know what you’re doing. Or be ok with some differences in expectations. You’ll either get exactly what you want, or a cheaper mistake. The used market is always out there. Best of luck.

Getting a jacket cloned was fine but my customs from 5* didn’t work out. Wouldn’t go that route again but would confidently send them another to clone.

Seems to be the consensus from everyone. When they have a pattern to copy it works out pretty great. If they are making customs or anything is left to chance it’s a crapshoot.

Absolutely a crapshoot going custom, Trucker jacket they cloned from denim to leather worked out well. I sent them a jacket that fitted great and the clone measured exactly the same within a couple of millimetres.

After I sent them an email asking for an update yesterday, today they sent me the pictures of the completed jacket. The lighting probably doesn’t show the colours correctly, I’m sure the leather will look richer in person. The overall look is definitely spot on. Looks authentic to something that would’ve been an issue garment. Again this is their veg tan crystal mid-brown goatskin. Lining is a bit "billowy" But I knew to expect that from FS. It’s perfectly within reason.

Here are a few of the pictures:
