That is a very nice Cal. Is it horsehide? Did it come with any labels? The fit looks great.
A Related Question for the Lounge Cal Experts:

Do CALs ever have a hide label??? I don't seem to recall seeing one in a Cal. Seems that the ones I have seen and handled only have the Cal Leathers Label if that.

Also, does anyone know what hide variety they have used over the years?? Seems like a lotta Steerhide jackets from what I have seen. Probably some HH too but does anyone have any idea what they used and when?? Like did they used to use HH now only use Steer like a lot of vintage makers???

Apologies for being lazy and just asking here instead of doing a search. We don't have to go deep on it here if its a nuisance.

GREAT question...many were horsehide, many....but I don't think I've ever seen any way to definitely prove which one of mine IS.

I am not an expert but I have visited Cal's shop several times. My experience comes from working in leather jackets in the San Diego area. As far as I know from the original Cal leather owner, some productions did not have a Cal leather label. As commonly known, Cal leather made jackets for many different outfits. Some jackets were made in horsehide, steerhide, and goat. Perhaps some others as well. But to be honest, the jacket in question reminds me of an early 60s particular production of jackets that I personally owned. I can stop an early 50-60s Jacket. Later several companies got in the game of reproducing the lapd and chp including a company I worked for. Lastly, Al's is the best reproduction of the bunch. Little details are different but never the less the Al's hides are top of the line.

I am taking a flyer on this guy. Not sure why, don’t wear cross zips at all anymore. I can’t imagine it’ll fit but for God only knows why I couldn’t lay off.
I am overjoyed that someone besides myself is engaged in what he himself KNOWS is probably a senseless purchase. @ton312 ---bro----in my experience, these types of endeavors tend to actually turn out the complete opposite of what we may think immediately post purchase. Here's hoping this one blows yer mind!!!!!

I did a quick search and found this pic

So it’s @handymike ‘s fault. If I can get that fit out of it I’ll be happy as a pig in what pigs are happiest in.
