The Shipping on eBay is weird.......

It calculates for your location. And when the person is not shipping flat rate----it has numbers based on your location. For me, the shipping for this jacket was over $27 --- I compare MOST jacket shipping to USPS Flat Rate which is up to $22.80 now. So I guess it wasn't SUPER high but much cheaper to your location. I feel really bad because a couple weeks ago I got a great jacket for a pretty lowish price but the Seller chose to use a weird sized larger box to send it and the cost of the shipment was $72 and change from New Hampshire to California. Terrible.

Shipping on eBay has been absurdly high for awhile now. I get a great deal then high shipping cost make it an ok deal. Sometimes I list items flat rate but when I use the USPS ship calculator I use close box measurements and weight. I recently negotiated for an amplifier and it cost me $75 to ship it. Should have been $30 or so.

I think I can offer some helpful additional data here, as I have taken a deep dive into the shipping issues there....first and foremost, ebay defaults to USPS Priority, which is a joke to stick someone with. Then...if the sellers don't know (or care) then they exacerbate the issue by using a box where one dimension exceeds 12" (most jackets can be folded into a 12 x 12 x 12" without damage with of course exceptions. They guess the weight, etc. I've saved hundreds over time by simply asking sellers to add additional shipping choices like fedex home or my new favorite USPS Ground Advantage, which is the former very cheap Parcel Select. Sellers often aren't aware that the nice folks at ebay are adding both sales price AND shipping (even sold through them!!) and taking their 13%!!!!! So...there are ways to change it pretty significantly. Rant over.

All very true. I have used the high shipping cost to dictate what I offer for whatever item I am interested in. You have high shipping, I offer much lower to offset. Most of the time it works. But asking sellers to offer different priced options is a great idea and will be using that. Thanks

All true.

When I list (which I have not done in quite awhile but likely need to soon), I list based on using USPS Flat Rate so I state a one price for all of whatever eBay is going to discount it for. For example I will list shipping at $21.00----I will not allow eBay to default my shipping to anything. I just state the Flat Rate cost as the shipping cost and its the same no matter where its going. I hate the whole dimensions of the box calculations and trying to guess the weight etc. If there is a buyer from overseas or non CONUS, I will get an actual shipping rate from USPS for that buyer if they are serious.

Clearly shipping is a cost added to purchase so of course, you need to consider it when making offers. I try to consider eBay's fees that the Seller will be eating when making offers as well. Luckily, leather jackets are generally not that heavy. I can see how things like an Amp or other items of weight would be a potential NO GO on eBay with shipping killing the deal.
