[Blackadder]

A popular Goatskin jacket from California Sportswear. They used this pattern from the late 30s into the 40s with some changes. This looks to be a mid 40s variation with a less fancy back.



This one is from the 30s. Older Zipper and more work on the back.

I passed due to that pit to pit........ I figured one of you guys would jump on it at that price. Nice get @ton312!!! You know the fit of this jacket so it was prolly a no brainer. I like the brown over the black in this style. Nice back length for a 42 too.

I’ve had this jacket in a 44” and it was roomy. I suspect with a tape the chest is spot on 23”. The 44” was 24.5”. These are also cut very broad across the shoulders. Which helps!

If you are not averse to vintage patina, (as I am not) where else are you scoring a true vintage HH HB for under $250 all in!?!?! Campus or not!! Had I known the sizing on these, I prolly woulda snatched it up when I saw it!!!!! Lol..... whew!!!! It would have gone into my overflow room anyway....also known as my Guilt Parlor.

Not much of a find in terms of a full jacket, but I just received some Herman Oak Heritage steerhide that’s an exact match to the 30s Ralph Pugh jacket leather. It’s uncanny. So my black RP cross zip is of a kind of weathered, matt, pebbly steer, I don’t know if it ever had much coating back in the day but I suspect it was the naked type all along. The Herman Oak has exactly the same hand, same texture and flexibility, a dead ringer.

I have this in burgundy colored steer. Same green ziggy-zaggy lining, too. Every other example I've seen has been horsehide, though. Mine is also a 42. I'd have to get it out to take measurements, but it definitely fits bigger than a 42. I'm a 42 or 44, depending, and it's borderline too big on me unless I'm wearing some layers. Nice jacket, though, for sure. Mine is the only example I've ever handled, but I think it's plenty solid, and the steerhide is thick and heavy, and had virtually the same fading and patina as Ton's new one. I wonder how long these were made, and how the horse vs steer numbers/timing break down.

Another use of the button pocket front. I am beginning to see the patterns in CSC jackets. The Goatskin at the bottom is another pattern, I have that jacket style with a Sears Topline label in the calfskin.

Also good example of CSC being sold through out the country. This store label in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I think these stretched into the early 60’s. I’ve seen some steer versions too that had later model, larger Talons that looked like they’d have been made in the 60’s. Assuming of course, the main zip wasn’t replaced. Its an all time favorite pattern of mine. I just love that curved front yoke!

Yes, very cool! Again, I'd have to get it out to check, but I believe mine has a Serval main zip, but with a smaller pull than the one on your incoming one. I believe it's a differently styled label as well. Well, now I'm going to have to get it out, I guess! It was the first vintage jacket I ever bought. Back when I thought patina like it had needed to be "fixed" with some dye, ha! It also needed to have some collar issues tended to. I dyed it, but then got busy with other things and never got around to the collar. Maybe this discussion will be a spur to my behind on that.
