Hi Terry, Using glycerin is to hydrate the hide. When I restore cordovan and calf skin shoes I use a soft cotton fabric remints soak in a solution of 2 parts water and 1 part glycerin. I then cover shoes with cotton soak fabric complete covering all of the shoes. The shoes are place in a plastic bag to keep the cotton from drying too fast. This allows the leather to soak in the solution from the cotton remints slowly. I have found that water and saddle soap can sometimes stiff up the leather if the leather soaks in the water because it was not quickly wipe off. This is a common mistake when saddle soap stay in the leather for a longer period of time and needed.
I have been contemplating making a review video but I am too shy to step in front of the camera. LOL.
The water acts as a vehicle to transport the glycerol into the hide. Water then (mostly) evaporates from the hide during the drying stage, leaving the glycerol in the hide. I say "mostly", because glycerol binds water very strongly (is a humectant), and some water may remain in the hide bound to glycerol. Glycerol is antibacterial, which is good. It is also an extreme attractant of water, so a hide treated with glycerol will absorb water more readily. For that reason I would not treat my jackets with glycerol, I prefer more hydrophobic treatments.

BUT THIS ONE IS DONE IN LEATHER!

True. I have seen several made of leather. That one being a "Branded" may be a thicker, higher quality leather. It may weigh quite a bit.

The leather ones I viewed, back in around 2003 or so, were fairly thin. Good luck with it if you purchased it. This is one jacket I would overall prefer the waxed cotton version for actual use.
