JMax,
It's hard to stay "retired" from jacket buying when you keep posting these up...Thanks ...really
steve

I’m always here for you.

A while back I bought an early Cal from this same seller. You won’t be disappointed. By far the best Cal I’ve owned. This one looks the same in the pictures.

This is a find, not a deal but... I can't even tell what's going on here. It's ridiculous, yet I don't hate it. Is that Langlitz? Cal??

I don't know what it is, but the seller says it weighs about twelve pounds. It's about to snap that plastic hanger it's on, and I think the jacket's hanging weird on it. I'd like to see it lying flat. Normally I'd worry about long-term shoulder warping on a jacket on a hanger like this, but I suspect this jacket is lined in lead and could stop an arrow, so now I'm just worried there might be a puppy or kitten or small child standing under it when the hanger breaks.

Spiegel. Started off as mail catalogues but I believe in the 40s & 50s was a department store chain. Not as big as Sears or Penney’s but same general idea. I’ve seen some really nice jackets with different Spiegel labels. I bet @tmitchell59 and/or the other TFL historians can provide more input.

Yes Spiegel had a large mail-order complex on the southside of Chicago on 35th Street, just west of Morgan. There was a pedestrian bridge connecting the buildings over 35th; that bridge was knocked down years ago and the pair of large brick buildings have been repurposed [one an art center, the other storage units, last I saw]. I believe they also operated out of a portion of the massive freight rail warehouses along Pershing [39th St] across from McKinley Park.

EDIT: a quick search yielded this page from their 1942 holiday catalog

Wikipedia has a quite detailed history of the business

I was going to bite on this one but seller turned down $125. Also, wouldn't give actual chest or shoulder measurements. "Im not a seamstress" was the reply. Kind of turned me off from gambling $150 when I really need a 42. Unless these run small

Well, it's sold now. They gave me the chest and shoulder measurements for the Spiegal jacket, so it's odd that they wouldn't provide that for the Schott. In any case, they might not be a seamstress, but they don't appear to be a particularly savvy seller either. They listed a made in China Harley jacket for $300, while pricing a 1940's cross zip at $100 and a perfecto at $125.

Though the seller could've been more tactful, whenever someone asks me for specific measurements, I always make sure to point out that I am not a tailor and that I might've measured the jacket all wrong and that it's best if they go with the size number. Because that's the truth.

That response would put me off too. Just post a picture of the measurement with the caveat.

Not sure how older jackets run, but in my experience newer Schott with numbered sizing run large.

I caved and bought this sans measurements for $145 shipped. Seller did answer my q about any odors / smoke smell etc and said its clean / leather smell. My quick research said this is a late 70's Perfecto steerhide style 615 that supposedly run 1 size small. Apparently lots of good schott info on their website forum.
