Very nice PN - no jacket by ELMC fits me since I need a 27 back length. Even a long in a 42 is just shy of 26 inches.

Keep in mind that the Californian front drops about an additional inch and a half past the back length if that makes sense..?

I have certainly forgotten to take that into consideration a few times with various styles and ended up with a different length than I was actually after.

Jacket looks great, all I know. But that dude looks like a cross between Tom Selleck and Tommy Wiseau.

More like the lovechild of Tom Selleck and Ron Jeremy.

If you take their short styles (I believe PN hss them all) and add a 27" long back then those jackets become something entirely different to what they are intended to be.

I'm not knocking mid length jackets, of course not. But vintage repros of short jacket styles (like MC Cross zips, or HBs such as the Californian) look awful when 3 more unnecessary inches of length is added. Why even entertain the idea of a vintage repro like these by ELMC if you don't like short jackets? You could just as easily buy something modern in the length you are comfortable with. Or if vintage is your vibe then a teamster or long halfbelt ought to suffice

I always wish my Cafe Racer jacket was two inches longer and possibly broader. In order for it to look reasonable on me (so that I think it does) I have to watch what I eat. Having said that, it gets commented on positively. I'd be more comfortable were it longer. Weirdly, I also reckon that a Teamster would look better in a Stockman length.

Hey MM - quit lecturing - you know where I stand on jacket length. I wanna 27 inch back - ok? It's a free world and I have owned 2 custom half-belts with a 27 inch back already and they looked perfectly fine. For this to fit me like it does Prote I need extra length - I'm six two with a long torso.

Yet another admonition on proper jacket length.

With respect sir,, how did adding on extra inches to your Imoerial work out for you? That's rhetorical, we know the answer. And yet you still won't agree with what is such an obvious truism.

Classic vintage leather jackets are timeless because the guys who designed them were masters of their trade. Length is not just one factor,, it's paramount

First, I have successfully added length to ALL of my custom jackets with great results. My Imperial -- because of the front to back differential -- was the one and only instance where the additional length did not work as I intended. To be clear, the added length in the back is perfect, and only the front is slightly too long. My Modoc, Frobishers and Kensingtons work perfectly with additional length (as did my prior jackets). Therefore, your attempt to impugn me by reference to my Imperial is a fail.

Second, and more importantly, while you are entitled to have an opinion regarding jacket length, your repetitive lecturing and reprimands concerning jacket length, coupled with your insistence that your opinion is a "truism" and anyone with a different opinion is objectively wrong, is inaccurate, disrespectful, counterproductive and downright annoying. Jacket length is a subjective preference, and those with preferences that differ from yours should not be subjected to your enduring criticism. Your opinion regarding jacket length is well documented. We get it. No need to force your opinion into countless discussions and, in so doing, indirectly (and sometimes directly) reprove those who favor longer jackets.

Lastly, there is a material difference between sharing an opinion, and telling others that their opinion is objectively wrong. The later is disrespectful. When you proclaim your opinion/preference to be a "truism," and you declare all contrary opinions/preferences as violative of fundamental, governing maxims, you are disparaging those that disagree with you. I am not sure if that is your intent, but it is most certainly the outcome. Others here share your preference for shorter jackets, but they do not exalt their opinions over others and insist that their opinion is a "truism." Instead, they respect and honor differing opinions, and refrain from injecting their unsolicited opinions into unrelated discussions. I humbly suggest that you pursue a similar approach.

OK, kids - keep it civil. You're all entitled to an opinion, whatever it may be, but we will keep a civil house!

I could not agree more. My goal is to promote civility and respect of differing opinions.

I'm not a tall fellow, 5'11" but I spec everything at 27". Sleeve and back...my belt is just covered that way.

This SB below was 26" and just too short to be comfortable in. Tiny little 1" makes a world of difference.

Sleeve and body length ha are personal and fit to taste. I believe a jacket can be ruined by being too long and too short. Everybody has a different number for just right. The drop front complicates things imo. I prefer the blunt cut across the hem for consistency across various patterns.

There's no point in arguing with Ton's photos. Thread over.

They all look great, including the SB! Interesting peek into the mind of a certifiable jacketaholic. One inch...lol. I hear you at 25" though.

I think the answer's in the term 'custom'. If makers were strict adherents to the notion of an exact and exacting length, the lengthening option would either be inadvisable or unavailable. The argument for a certain length being correct in a custom market seems similar to suggesting that custom shoes should be an exact length at maximum regardless of the shape of the customer's foot- uncomfortable and untenable. It's not called Imperial Procrustean, after all.
