Portis Tissue-Lite!

Picked this up recently. It's a Portis Tissue-Lite. Dove grey, it arrived unbashed! The brim is a bit larger that 2 5/8". Appears to be unworn. It has a $10.00 original price tag. The liner is different as you can see by the pics. Anybody care to date this hat? Very lightweight felt, smooth, soft finish.

I've seen worse but agree that Whippet prices are pretty silly these days.

I am wondering if the market is saturated and prices are down on Whippets? I watch them just because I find the sales of interest price wise and I've seen quite a few go for about $200 and under lately. Heck, during the holiday weekend one went for $80! I saw a 7-1/4 go for $200 even and a size 7-1/8 go for $180 over the last 2 months.

Have we seen the Whippet craze bottom out? Anyone have some tulip bulbs for sale?

I won this Esquire magazine from Sept. 1944. There's supposed to be a Dobbs Lightweights ad in it, but this is the only photo the seller had with the auction. It sold me; I think it will look good on my wall. And maybe the Dobbs ad, too.

Perhaps under the Gripes category, what the hell is "steampunk"? I await enlightenment.

Originally it was a type of science fiction/fantasy story set in Victorian times but there were isolated advanced technologies or crossovers from other science fiction technology. For example they may have lasers but the lasers are bulky and ornate with lots of gee gaws on them, looking like something from Victorian times. Kind of like the Time Machine by HG Wells.

That's a quick description. You can look it up on Wikipedia for more detail.
