Oops, I guess I got the message that Homburgs are dressy too late! ;) I have worn my homburgs with casual wear comfortably.

The homburgs I have have their moments in a hat wardrobe. It is terrific to have selection. I remind myself that when every man wore a hat, not every person owned a hat rack full of hats and wore comfortably what they had. I take them off the hat hat rack and wear them with pride.

I am unsure you can dress down a homburg. The homburg hat is what it is. Dress and put them on confidently. As long as they coordinate reasonably with your daily costume - good to go.

Cheers,

The hat that Edward VII brought back from Bad Homburg was not considered a formal hat. You see him wearing them in casual settings. I have some interesting photos of him wearing such hats at the Bad Homburg Casino / Spa.

I've always thought of the homburg as a dressy near-formal hat -- but that may be because I usually see them in black. An Acorn Fawn homburg from Akubra bashed with a simple centerdent and front pinches like a fedora, would look sharp with a nice shirt and dressy jeans. I spotted a gentleman in a local mall some years ago wearing a cream-colored homburg that had been gussied up with a more Western-style band, a brownish leather, I think. He wore a dress shirt and jeans with it, and it looked pretty good.

If the colour on my monitor reflects the true colour of this hat....it is a stunner.....what a great hat.

Unworn but has a few stains around the outer edge of the binding. I would call the color cappuccino.
Plenty of brim and the crown is just as easy to mold as most of my other hats.

Wrong coat for the hat and this tread! (I just wanted a quick head shot for proportions)
