George C. Scott's role was memorable. No wait, I think every actor in that film did a bang up job. :eusa_clap
Agreed.

There is very little quality satire in films today like we see in this one. And to think it was made...in the 1960s!<shudder>

My recollection was that Dr S was loosely based on Edward Teller, "Father of the H Bomb."

I don't know about that.
Wasn't Teller Hungarian while Strangelove was a ex nazi (and not that much ex)

If true then there's a certain irony in the fact that Teller was Jewish. Evidentally the man was frequently asked about his fictional counterpart to the point of irritation:

"My name is not Strangelove. I don't know about Strangelove. I am not interested in Strangelove. What else can I say? Look. Say it three times more, and I throw you out of this office." ...Dr. Edward Teller, 1999

Story Another extraordinary aspect of that film was how close Kubrick nailed the Top Secret details.

However, the Soviets didn't go live with their Doomsday Device until 20 years after the film came out - which sort of makes you wonder if they were inspired by it.

Not surprising considering that the KGB supposedly looked to James Bond movies for inspiration for some of their own spy gear. lol

Well it was made when people would laugh at life's idiosyncracies. Not, to get political, but look at the laughable characters in the movie and some of the '80s born people on the internet. I'm surprised no one has claimed this movie glorifies Nazi's.

It is rumored that one models for the Strangelove character was, Henry A. Kissinger, who was already advising the Kennedy White House on revamping U.S. nuclear policies.

Apparently bunk....

Both Kubrick and Sellers denied that Dr.Strangelove was inspired by Henry Kissinger. Sellers said, "Strangelove was never modeled after Kissinger, that's popular misconception. He was always Wernher Von Braun. But the one gloved hand that kept rising to salute, well, the man was a Nazi. That idea just came to me, it was entirely spontaneous. And Stanley stopped everything and shot the gesture with three cameras."

The black leather glove worn by Sellers as Dr. Strangelove was borrowed from Kubrick himself. The director wore the gloves to protect himself from getting burned by the hot studio lights when adjusting them.

I remember watching this movie in U.S. History 1945-present course in college. The female professor kept discussing the overt sexual overtones throughout the movie.

I love Stanley Kubrick`s films. Dr. Strangelove is the quintessential dark comedy. One of the finest films ever made, imho!

"Our precious bodily fluids..."

Watch the documentary "Stanley Kubrick:A Life In Pictures"(netflix) if you`re a fan of the man`s work.

I believe she did have a crush on Slim Pickens, especially when he was riding that bomb. She also was fascinated by the opening scenes of the refueling in mid-air.
