Double Helix Works?

I wasn’t even in the market for a new leather jacket, but if I were to order one, it’d be a Double Helix after reading through this thread.

And I saw this jacket on their Instagram, available to order as of earlier this year:

I agree. This is an underrated brand. I’m certainly no expert, but I couldn’t see any real quality difference between the Deviant and The Flathead Delariser I saw at the shop in Los Angeles when I stopped in to try on the Deviant. I was tempted to buy the Deviant, but I’ve wanted a D-Pocket for ages so I decided to wait. Couldn’t be happier with my choice.

The leather has character out of the box and I know it will only get better with time. It’s already creasing nicely on the sleeves. The stitching is well done too.

That first one looks like a Y2 NH-55, which has tempted me in the past but I never pulled the trigger.

Well, the following pricing, converted to USD, is for natural D-pocket. From what I’ve read, they appear to be in the same tier.

Y’2 NH-55, Himeji horsehide: $2050
Double Helix Innovator, Nitta horsehide: $1430
Tenjin JW-02, tochigi cowhide: $1160

There was a NH-55 in size 46 in EU in the Classifieds for around 1000€ and I was thinking about it... Then it was sold and I didn't care that much, which is far better than thinking "Oh no, I should had bought it first!", lol. I was still unsure of the sizing anyway back then as I was yet to get any proper jacket and my priority wasn't a natural hide (what a start would had been tho, going for a natural one instead of a typical black or brown!).

I think there's still one (perhaps the same one being resold?) but it's across the pond which is another of the reasons why I didn't pull the trigger: It's expensive and I would have to pay import taxes on top of that and a new one being an exclusive in a Canadian shop would be the same story.

But anyway, I like it but I'm not 100% sure I really want it. Perhaps if in a year I find myself still wanting it, then I would guess the Double Helix will not be tied to a single shop in the other side of the world, so I could hopefully buy it directly in EU or maybe even contact DH to buy it directly for much cheaper than the Y2 would be at The Shop (or the Classifieds from US due to import+tariffs).

By any chance does anyone have experience with hugging the curve and 1930s classic? Hugging the curve seems to have slimmer sleeves based on pictures and I believe it was mentioned earlier in this thread that they are indeed pretty slim in the forearm area.

Are shapes similarly from the body? Could not find hem measurements for the 1930s classic but otherwise measurements seem very similar (shoulder, P2P, length).

The sheen and grain on that look so nice! How stiff was the leather straight out of the box?
It was fairly stiff, although it’s softening rather quickly. It was comfortable from day one though. I’m really loving the leather. Here it is next to a Langlitz and Lewis Leathers (both about 20 years old). Although I love all three, the DH is becoming my favorite leather.

I should've not clicked on this thread. This jacket is tremendous. Now I want one.
Apologies. I got reeled in watching those Fjorde videos on YouTube! Then I made the fatal error of trying on a Deviant (same pattern) and realizing this jacket was tailored for me. Lol. The grain and sheen is so nice it’s got me considering replacing my old LL Dominator with a new one in LL’s vege cow. Why can’t I just be like my friends who shop at Mervyn’s FC or their clothes!?! Hahaha!

You are a better salesman than this clown Fjorde...:)

I own a Hugging the Curve and have tried on a 1930s. They are VERY different jackets. The 1930s is roomier all around and longer in the body. There is less taper from pit to hem, making it boxier. The sleeves are less slim – I have a hard time layering anything under my HtC but I think I could wear a sweatshirt under the 1930s. Not as dramatic a difference as the body cut though.

1930s, size 40:

(if it's unclear: the jacket is zipped up in the photo above. The hem is just that wide).

Both jackets are fire. I was plotting to get a 1930s model, but now you’ve got me confused after seeing your Hugging the Curve! Lol!
