Cowboy Boots

Those look nice, Jack but if you're gonna spend that kind of money why not order a pair. I noticed Paul Bond Co. had three or four pair listed for auction a week or so ago.

I agree; for not much more money you could have a made to measure boot. I love the lines of the boot but still prefer wrinkles & a bug on smooth leather.

Richard, good looking boots but you're right about sellers lying or just being ignorant of what they're selling. Here is one of the sites I use when trying to make the determination about crocodilians. I own two pair of American alligator belly boots and have handled numerous other pairs. From what I've seen, yours look like Nile crocs.

It's nice when it works in one's favor, though. I recently bid on some "caiman" boots that I could see were actually alligator belly.

Great thread; always glad to find others who own and appreciate these great boots.

There are no prettier lines on a cowboy boot than Paul Bond boots. My 2007 Bond's, 16" tops with 2-1/4" cowboy heel, 2D toe & 6 row stitching in yellow, cream & red. The name of the stitch pattern escapes me now.

Really nice Jack. Never had any Bonds but I'm tempted. Need to stop buying hats. Love the grain, what's the leather.

Wow I purchase an ordered pair exactly like those but in a black with a natural color finish on the sides of the soles and heels for my Husband a few years back, maybe around 2007 or 2008? But I have to tell you they look so nice he does not wear them much! There may be someone making more expensive boots out there but Paul's does some of the best workmanship on any boots available. We had maybe 15 pairs of Cowboy boots here, down to maybe 5 or so now, and in no way would we ever sell off the Paul's pair. I have a pair in a light grey and red, and love them!

What speaks to me first are the lines of the boot; not talking about the style of the boot. If a pair of boots are made off of a 1" - 1-1/2" wide flat bottom walking heel with flat arches then I usually don't look any farther because the lines won't be there other than for a pair of ropers or something. Those aren't cowboy boots. There are several good custom bootmakers and their lines they make are pretty consistent from one pair to the next. The next thing I notice then is the style of the boot, workmanship & quality of materials, etc.

Others may think differently. Sounds like you have had some nice boots also.

Nothing slack about those Jack!!! Impressive boots. Works of art, I'd go so far as to say.

Dale, pick up any boot sometime & study the lines as you hold it & turn it. Look at them on your feet. Learn what you like & what you don't like about the lines of that particular pair of boots. It's no different then the lines of a hat, really.

But people don't always see an inanimate object as a work of art unless it's something like a painting. Cars for example:

Preaching to the choir here, Jack.

My boot collection may not be world class, but I guarantee there's at least a few masterpieces in it.

I'm sure you do have some because I know you have the eye for it. Put up some pics sometime. I own others besides Paul Bonds that I like real well & I'll be posting some of them as I take new pics. Sorry if I sounded preachy but please, no Ariats. Friends don't let friends wear Ariats!

Here's a quick and crappy flick of some of mine, Jack. If you scroll back through this thread there's better pics of most of mine scattered throughout it. I'll try to put up some better photos this weekend when I've got some daylight to work with. The ol' phone camera can be pretty grainy in low light.
