Glad you posted those, Alex. They're a good example of what is often listed as 'Sea Alligaator' or croc in the secondary market. Any transference other than inheritance is illegal but they are often sold on the bay. As far as the anteater, I see them occasionally but not much lately.
Man this thread is on fire. You guys are really teaching me a lot.
Sorry, but I'm not at your level, to say the least. Had some new heels put on my old Fry ropers the other day. Not bad since I've been wearing them since 1990.

I️ always see a bias cut alligator, which is also sometimes called a flank cut, being called sea turtle. They look very similarly but feel different.

Alex, I have a pair of bias cut gator belly boots. The distinct difference is the uniformity of the "tiles" and the relatively straight lines between the tiles as compared to sea turtle boots.
I think you meant "inherit" a pair of Sea Alligator boots. Bet they have some in Juarez.
I'm a fan of that 'moccasin' style vamp. I have a pair of acmes from that era with some sort of really hard leather on the apron. I'm not sure if it's shark or bull or what, but you'd be hard pressed to drive a nail through it. It is, in my eye, a sleek looking style and very dressy. Mine are too small and I'd like to eventually find another pair that fit better.1967 TL advertisement showing a pair of sea turtle boots.

I went to Mexico with some friends about 14 years ago, and one of our stops was Leon, Guanajuato. there were 8 of us and we all wanted to buy boots. Most went for alligator, but one of the guys opted for a pair of anteater boots that were the only pair they had and happened to be his size. I remember they looked nice, but wasn't really taken by how they looked.
Seriously? I didn't know that.
Never been a fan of anteater but they were certainly popular for awhile. Hard for me to understand some peoples tastes, such as those who buy pirarucu boots. To each his own.

I️ was out tagging and branding calves this morning on the far side of the ranch where I️ work. It was abit cold so I️ stopped to take lunch at a cabin that is mostly used for storage.
I️ saw a bag with what looked like a boot top sticking out. Found these beauties. Lucchese Full Quill Ostrich in a black cherry color. And some tan elephant hides made by Nocona boot back when they were among the best.
Both pair need some saddle soap and conditioning.
They may very well be my days pay. Hah.

Here are my brown Noconas, I wonder if anyone here knows when Nocona went from this label to the red?I️ was out tagging and branding calves this morning on the far side of the ranch where I️ work. It was abit cold so I️ stopped to take lunch at a cabin that is mostly used for storage.

Thanks Bamaboots, these have the sewn in white label from Nocona Texas. They have 4 rows of pegs. My Nocona pythons have the sewn in red label from Nocona, Texas, and also have 4 rows of pegs. They're both nicely made boots.Ddog, I'm certain someone around does but the information available is so vague. What I do think is, that if you have the sewn white label on the interior of the pull strap and not the stamped brand on the shaft, you have a US made boot. With that label, I think you have an all wood pegged arch. I may be wrong. The label evolved to red white and black after this.
