And people wonder why I won't use that site. Hello drama
What is the style forum?Style Forum had a bit of FL bashing sometime back by other FLers. Some unkind snark directed towards a specific thread and how people look, a few wink-wink nudge-nudge comments about some of the gals here (not by name) and general complaints about this and that. But I suppose such output is what brings about dialogue. I still maintain that FL is a much more civilized forum than almost any other out there.

All the best people are quirky and middle aged.
Most of the comments I are from patrons at the theatre, most of whom tend to be in the older bracket, but when we have an event targeted to the younger crowd, there's always one or two who say something to me, usually wanting to know where I get my clothes -- and when I tell them I make my clothes, they always gape with astonishment. To most of the younger generation, apparently, the idea of sewing clothes from scratch is just slightly less astonishing than the act of creating life itself from the primordal ooze.
I'm right there with ya, rue.

W-D Forties, the avatar is Norma Shearer and it's one I found, oddly, on a website called Who's Dated Who (yeah, I know ). They have a really incredible collection of photos of silver screen actors - photos that aren't necessarily the "iconic" ones you see over and over which makes them much more enjoyable to me.W-DForties said:Lily Powers - totally off topic, but I have always meant to ask you where you got your avatar. It's just gorgeous!

just had a look I do not think I joining.
it it's been said to me more than once by nice people that I am some what lacking in the men's style department
and I am very proud of that fact
I had an interesting exchange on Twitter today with two women I follow - one a journo in Edmonton and another journo in Calgary. Despite this being public online I'll use G and L (I'm Laurie_Callsen) for brevity etc. I added it from bottom to top instead of top to bottom, sorry!
(This is the dress G was talking about and I love it!)
The thing that upset me about this was that I wasn't trying to be snarky (and hopefully I didn't come off that way) but I just wanted to network with other journos in the province, especially since G seems into vintage/retro as well. But then L throws my comment back at me in my face like it was some sort of personal insult to her when I was just talking about my personal experience about how you totally could get away with it on the prairies (especially Calgary!). I didn't say anything after, I was just upset that it was taken that way - this is actually my first adverse reaction to wearing vintage, usually it's positive (or so stupid that I brush it off as such instead of taking it seriously).
Such is the problem with online interactions I suppose. [huh] sigh
I don't get it. The dress is sweet and simple. Anyone could wear it and 'get away' with it, no matter where they live! I certainly don't see why one would have to be brave to wear it. It's lovely and tame.
From reading the above G is snarky to L and you. Your comments weren't snarky at all Laurie. Anyone can see that.
*sighs* indeed. I sometimes get reactions like that when talking to women about how long we've been dressing/into vintage. When I say into vintage/antiques since I was a child, collecting dolls, purses and such. And dressing 40s/50s for about 8-9 years. I sometimes get similar snarky reactions. [huh]

Sorry, was I misleading? that photo of "expectation/vs/reality" was one I came across online that was so exactly like what she says that I posted it... Thank you for the compliment though! (more often I get compared to Bon Jovi, Shaggy, or any other blond person with long-ish hair... )I think you look nice in a hat
By the way, have you ever heard that you look like Prince William?
