I was just real curious after Feraud mentioned leather, so I whipped this up real quick to get an idea, but its not finished yet. I need to get to work on other caps. I do notice that a leather cap needs good padding underneath to keep its shape. This one is sitting over another cap.

I went fabric shopping the other day and picked up a few more colors that I thought would make cool caps:

Greens:

Charcoal Melton Grey:

And this last one is like a Melton Black Cherry and I started thinking of Art's felt colors and wondered, "I wonder how a cap in black cherry would do?"

WABASH STRIPE Yes that is the ticket. I saw on the Denimhunters video that someone had made a cap in that fabric. The cap just panned across a shelf and there it was.

Several Japanese companies make them,(if you Google image search it you'll see some drool worthy examples) but I'd like one of our "artisans" to take a crack at it!

Johnny, That black cherry has some nice depth to it really like it.

Speaking of Wabash here is a great one by freewheelers that I could have bought, didn't, they when I tried it was sold out.

Just say the word! Right Hepville?
There is already a "material/ fabric war" goin on, mate ;-)

Hickory stripe, herringbone chambray, polka dotted denim (even with stars as dots) is not aproblem to get... but wabash?
What does the word wabash means/ stands for? I´ve tried to get a translation for it but wasn´t able.

I wonder how flat caps will look like with those patterns. Has anybody seen some?

I have been looking for the Walbash stripe fabric.:) There was a run of it in Japan last year and several of the japanese jean makers bought it to make jackets and vest's and caps. Bella here is a cap in Walbash stripe.

What does Walbash mean?
Stifel-textiles

Walbash is a classic work wear pattern along with Hickory. The pattern is highly covetted in the work wear collecting and wearing crowd. The jackets and vest's I seen on the Japanese website's look great. The Sugarcane cap is ok Johnny or you could do a much better cap in the fabric.

Very interesting link Ed, thanks a lot! As it seems "Wabash" was the name of a Railway company. Railway brakemen wore Stifel´s fabrics and so the name "Wabash" stuck.
I am quite keen on such a shirt but I am not prepared to spend 300 Dollars/Euros for it! :eeek:

A year or so back Levi's did a run of shirt in that pattern if I remember correctly.

Not sure if it was mentioned but Wabash is also the name of a city in Indiana.

See the "Wabash Indianians" in Astaire & Rogers' third film, Roberta (1935). :)

Yes they do on small sizes. :). They like the workwear look and have clothing manufactors make the fabric up.
I have found a source of some Stifel fabric's waiting to hear back.
