Can someone date this jacket for me?

Normally I don't date jackets because I prefer women; especially jacket's from the early 80's like this one which a friend of mine took out one night; he's never been heard from since . . . yep, that's my guess based on a friend of mine.

I've sold quite a few 'old' belstaff jackets in my time, and that looks pretty new to me, the 60's/70's ones were nowhere as ostentatious with the labelling and accoutrements. They were pre 'brand consciousness' so to speak.

That would be my general feeling too, based as much as anything on the brand labelling and clear marketing of 'tradition'.

So is it really a vintage jacket?

I'd say veering towards original-maker reproduction. Always thought it a shame that Belstaff moved away from the diagonal breast pocket, which to my eye was one of the features that made the original jacket as much a design classic as the A2 or the Schott Perfecto.

I agree with the comment about the diagonal pocket. Thanks for the info. I sent off an email to Belstaff to see whether they can assist.

PS: The jacket is up for sale as it's too big on me and I already have one of the newer ones. It's a heavy-weight jacket with padding and plenty of room through the arms. Contact me if interested.
