Amazing suit. What are those on the backside of the jacket pockets? Cloth covered buttons? For reinforcement?

They're circular cloth patches. Look like big buttons, but they aren't. Not for reinforcement, but to protect the hip pockets' bar tacking from wear.

I'd say earlier than 1930s. It would have been rare to see a jacket without a front dart then, and even so in the 1920s.

I thought it might be earlier. The close button stance made me immediately think of the 1920s.

Two questions:
The rear of the inner waistband - Is that a loop for hanging the trousers?
Are the button-holes in the fly slanted? If so, that's something I have never seen before.

on suit jackets it would have been rare... but not on sports jackets, school blazers and work jackets.

Seems to be slightly more of a Continental thing - I have a Swiss suit with similar slanting buttonholes in the fly, but none of my British made suits have that. Obviously not always the case, though.....

No seriously, a beautiful outfit. I would think it looks even better in reality because the photograph doesn't show the red overcheck (forgot the word for it). You didn't get the other socks?

Thanks! Getting the right pair of socks was a saga in itself. I wasn't able to get hold of the vintage "Alexander & Oviatt" ones on time, nor a pair in lovat blue. Turned out that American Apparel, of all places, had a great knee-high pair in beige with orange, blue, green and red flecks in it. Worked like a charm.
