The most amazing tweed jacket from 1948 ...

This appears to have sold rather quickly, and it's no surprise really. I have never seen a jacket like this from the forties before. A blue/grey tweed with 'plum' windowpane checks, velvet collar and slanting pockets:

looks like a precursor to the 'neo-edwardian*' fad of the mid 50s - 60s that ran parallel to the working class teddy boy styles, but were worn by the wealthier 'cutter and tailor' magazine / custom tailored crowd.
certainly a rare one. lots of rare stuff cropping up recently !

Exactly. My first thought was that it looked like it should have belonged to Neil 'Bunny' Roger. Being from 1948, I wouldn't be surprised if it originally belonged to one of his 'set'. I'm sure the new owner will be proud to wear it.

As for the Norfolk, I've had that for several years. Has a belt too but I don't often wear it with the jacket.

Gentlemen, here is a ‘mystery’ Shetland tweed suit: no tailor labels of any kind, though the plus-fours’ buckles have a British maker’s name and the waistcoat’s back buckle says “British”.


The lining fabric is a very thick and slippery rayon satin, the kind I’ve seen on non-American clothing only. The coat’s sleeves have surgeon’s cuffs.


1930s? I reckon so. What say you?


Any thoughts about this suit would be greatly appreciated!
