FOR SALE Open Road style vintage Allesandria BORSALINO in very good condition.

Noboday answered with anything to trade so now it's a simple auction format.

Jon has open at 140. The auction will stay open until Monday Dec. 29 at 10AM Central Standard Time. The highest offer when I check at that time will win. This will be an EBAY style auction where the winner will win at $5 over the second place bid. For example if the high bid is 200 but the next high is 150 the winner will pay only 155. Priority mail shipping is $5. I will notify the winner of the grand total and ship within 24 hours of recieving payment. PAYPAL ONLY and no overseas shipping please.

Silver grey with 2.5 inch brim and 5 inch crown. Long oval tag is present but size isn't marked. I wear 7 1/8 and this is quite large on me. My best guess is that it's 7 3/8 or so. Please note that there are two very small faint blue dots on the crown right. They're visible in the photo if you close very closely.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all your PMs and offers!

I've never had good results getting accurate elliptical measurements with a tape measure and going to purchase something to do it right.

When I have an accurate number I'll post it. Thanks for your patience!

No need to buy anything, zetwal. You can use a belt to measure the inside circumference of the hat. Roll up the belt, place it inside the hat, unroll it until it is snug against the sweatband all around, and then mark the belt where the two ends overlap. Unroll and measure the distance between the two marks with whatever you have handy, e.g., a yardstick.

Thanks for your suggestions. The belt worked better for me than any other method I've tried before. It actually hugs the sweatband.

Using the same belt pressed down flush with the sweatband I measured two 7 1/8 Borsalinos at about 21 and the larger one posted here measured just under 22. It seems to me that a one inch difference in circumference would put them roughly two sizes apart. If so, this MR X should be about 7 3/8. Is my reasoning correct? E

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions and offers.

If nobody steps forward soon with something smaller to trade I'm happy to auction it with Jon's opening bid. Thanks Jon!

Perhaps to avaoid confusion I will just make a new 'auction' listing. That way everyone will see it and know that it's an auction. Sound good?

What's a sensible auction run? three days? four or what? And is it customary to start and stop on a particular day of the week? or is one as good as another?

By the way, based on some of the PMs I've recieved I gather that several forum members sell hats on ebay. Is it easier for you if I list it there? or do members prefer to trade here in the forum?

I'm new here and am just learning how you guys do things ... E
