maybe the costume department tapered the waist a little bit to give more exaggerated strong hero look as the also remove the liner , I can't imagine leather jacket company aimed to normal people would make a pattern where the back hem would be so tight it stuck above the wearer pants belt line, while the upper part fit quite freely even on young marlon brando, it would limit market segment that would fit into it, but alteration for movie, or newer versions after the movie became a hit would make sense as then young people perhaps wanted to get the same look
Falsch gedacht. Das war eine Jacke, die für das Motorradfahren gedacht gewesen istSie mußte deshalb an der Taille eng anschließen um Schutz zu bieten. Es waren keine Frezeitjacken wie heute.

Think again. That was a jacket designed for motorcycling; it had to fit snugly at the waist to provide protection. They weren't casual jackets like the ones we have today.

If I were to get one, I'd go with the plain version of course. I think the painted ones are perhaps wearable in Europe and Japan by Americana enthusiasts, but in Britain or America it would look odd except at some kind of costume convention.
In Deutschland auch, hätte was von Karneval ! Käme nicht cool, eher doof

I agree that some look costumey, like this Hercules with extremely wide shoulder, short body and narrow waist.

Others from the same era, also short and v shaped, look more natural.

The main difference imo between modern perfectos and vintage ones is not the v shape, it's the body length.

These two (late 40s, mid 50s) look a lot more modern for instance, because of their longer body length.

1 and 2 are the coolest

Yeah, for sure. Even when they try to make it look more like the movie jacket, they fail. The 618 cut is already similar, all they need to do is work on the details but it's as if they're deliberately trying to not make it screen accurate.

Also, we keep forgetting Vanson did a pretty cool version, too.

Okay.

First of all, this is a screen accurate replica of the jacket worn by Marlon Brando in the movie The Wild One, right? So you guys need to understand that this is possibly the first such 100% accurate repro to ever hit the market. There's no alternative, per se. Unfortunately.

And even if Brando didn't wear Durable at all, this jacket would still make a very interesting and desirable piece for anyone who is into vintage clothing as Durable is exactly from the era this forum is supposed to be about. Existence of this jacket is no different or any less warranted than any of the countless J-100 repros out there.
Plus, Durable jackets were some of the best in quality and fit at the time from what I have heard, by the way, and have always been very highly prized among the collectors.

So yeah, right now there isn't anybody else that makes a straight reproduction of this jacket which means that if you want The Wild One jacket, this is it. Best chance you'll ever get. Or good luck trying to find an original Durable.

Second, the price is high but it's still right there with the Japanese repros and this jacket is actually much more screen accurate than that one other Japanese version that I have seen.
Whether it's worth it or not and whether you like it or not is in this case entirely irrelevant. This is purely a collectors piece, it's made for people who do not want to settle for just any Perfecto 'cause it looks close enough, and want instead to have the jacket from the movie and to someone like that this jacket is worth the money. I would buy it this instant if I had the $. Does that make me a fool?
Völlig richtig !!!
