Berets, Anyone?

I havent worn a beret for three month.
The woolen ones are far too warm, no matter how "great" merino wool is claimed to be. And the cotton ones, soaked with sweat after half an hour and stinking, cant be washed.
Waiting for autumn to arrive.

torture i feel you, but i have used the Czech trads as a summer beret (heather blue), very light, one of my favorites,
of coarse they are all great

On the topic of cotton berets.
I agree no one wants to wear a stinking sweaty beret.
i toss my cotton Tolosa Tupidas in the washing machine with t-shirts, etc. on the Gentle Cycle.
For the Castilla berets I recommend hand washing with Woolite.
Then stretch to size and air dry.
The colors do not fade much.
You can swap out berets with ease.

I agree. I have washed my cotton berets often and as long as i make sure they dry properly (i insert a dinner plate in the beret while drying), they come out perfectly fine.
As for wool berets, i have been wearing mine all summer, often on days of 100 degrees. The spanish super lujo's i find too warm, but my auloronesas are fine in the heat. I prefer the czech model with the leather rim and air vents though; very comfortable on a muggy, hot day.

i have put my wool berets in water before, some with success many with out, but there is no way i would have been brave enough to put a beret in the washing machine, it would have been hand washed and pressed on a towel,

Mmm I've never had to wash one but the military wool ones, you form the new ones while in the hot shower so they fit you.

Le Laboureur

Something special for the real beret aficionado & collector: South Pacific Berets has found and purchased a box full of brand new British made KANGOL MONTY berets, some 40 years old but never worn.
A real rarity to find these brand-new berets, made in Cleator!

Founded in the 1920s, by Jewish Polish World War I veteran Jacques Spreiregen, Kangol (the K from knitting, the ANG from angora, and the OL from wool) produced hats for workers, golfers, and especially soldiers.

In 1938, Spreiregen opened a factory at Cleator, Cumbria, England, a second factory was opened at nearby Frizington, and later a third factory, manufacturing motorcycle helmets and seat belts in Carlisle.

Kangol were the major beret suppliers to the armed forces during World War II, including famously Field Marshal Montgomery.During and after the war, Kangol berets were the height of fashion. In the 1960s, designers Mary Quant and Pierre Cardin worked with the company, whose products graced the heads of the rich and famous, including the Beatles and Arnold Palmer, and later Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Kangaroo logo was adopted by Kangol in 1983 because Americans were always asking where "they could get the Kangaroo hat...". No Kangol hat has ever actually been manufactured in Australia. The global rights to Kangol hats have been held by American hatmakers Bollman Hat Company since 2002 and all production went offshore, specifically to China and Malaysia.

Where can I get a decent quality cotton or linen beret for the summer *in Europe* ? I have a simple cotton one, but I find it a bit tight, and I would not mind going up un quality. I mention Europe because I am in Europe and it is just much easier for me to avoid customs hassles if I buy online.

On the left is the Boneteria Auloronsea Blue Jean and on the right is the Navy.

The blue jean color is very much like unwashed overdyed indigo denim.
