Hello everyone,
Those past few years, I have been wearing more caps than hats.
And one that gets stuck in my head is the one worn by Justin Theroux in the TV show The Mosquito Coast.
I understand, this is a replica of Captain Quint's cap in the movie Jaws.
The closest I could get over here in France was this model by Aurega. It's made of pigskin. But it's a classic 6-panel baseball cap, not a 4 or 5-panel structure.
I see a few US-based companies have tried to reproduce Quint's cap.
I have ordered one from Heddels. But it turned out to be quite cheap. Completely different from the shop photos. The visor is floppy. I cannot round it up properly like any "normal" cap. It may be a good replicate, but it's nevertheless really different from the one of the TV show.
I am now waiting for one ordered from Etsy and asked the maker for a rigid visor. It's still made out of waxed canva though. I'm not sure how it's gonna turn out.
I realize I like pigskin. The skin's pores are big and it turns out to be quite breezy after all. Never thought I'd put a piece of leather on my head !
I'm starting to tell myself that I really want that cap of the TV show. Either made of thick waxed canva (like I beieve it is ?) or of pigskin, but maybe without the two front pockets.
So I'm wondering if you could advise someone who does custom caps so I have an idea of what's possible.
Thank you very much
