I'm always glad to find a good Barbisio hat and while I am waiting for a few very very good ones my friend Daniele @Daniele Tanto has found for me (to be fair, he is much closer to the source), I was very happy with this one.
Barbisio Sportex in argento colour. Size 57 with the overwelt brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Talpa finish, which means a longhair. A bit roomy for me at size 57, but I think I can make it work. Weighs 111 grams. The liner is killer on this one.

Barbisio Doria in a size 56. Overwelt brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Lovely hand to the felt, but quite sturdy for an Italian hat. Not stiff, but sturdy. The shark gill bows of Barbisio are without equal.

Now, if this isn't a special one, I don't know what is.
Barbisio Lontra in Misto Ferro. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. A Lontra felt was another one that was high on the search list. While I was looking for a Borsalino Lontra (Bill Hughes has one), this turned up. It doesn't disappoint and Borsalino would be hard-pressed to do any better. The felt is just incredible. Fantastically smooth, soft and malleable. And it's a heather to boot.
Almost certainly pre-war, when Barbisio did more specialty felts (like Rat Gondin - nutria).
Many thanks to @Daniele Tanto who was the go-between as the seller wouldn't ship outside Italy.

This Barbisio arrived, in worse conditions, together with the Panizza "For ever".
For a reason of love for the brand of Sagliano I thought of restoring it even if the task for the hatter was difficult.

The Barbisio had been attacked in two places by moths.
barbisio-arg-8-jpg.373952

Barbisio Qualità Extra size 60 centimeters, or 7 1/2 in the USA.
barbisio-arg-6-jpg.373953

The color of the felt is "Egeo - Aegean" like the sea.
The grey background color is mixed with a deep and metallic blue, a color hardly seen in my experience in Barbisio felts.
barbisio-arg-4-jpg.373954

The restoration work has minimized the passage of moths, but has not canceled them.
barbisio-arg-3-jpg.373955

These are the measures of such great beauty: the brims edged by a very thin ribbon in the same color as the felt measure 6 cm. the ribbon in perfect color with the felt is 2.5 cm and the crown at its lowest point is at 10.5.
barbisio-arg-1-jpg.373956

I have a regret because the tone on tone colors and finish are among my favorites, this is also a full size and is wide for my head

Daniele, yet another fantastic find and at a big size! Though not always obvious the surrounding environment also served as an inspiration the Italian makers used for their colour names it seems. Not a surprise I think that along with the Borsalino m.Ionio this Barbisio Egeo is a close second favourite. Wish it was smaller (now, how many times can you tell that for a vintage hat?) ;)

Now how did I miss this one? Fantastic Stefan! (Sorry for the delayed commenting). I think I need to talk to Daniele and maybe improve my diplomatic skills ;)

Took me a few days to find some time to take photos of this one.
Barbisio fedora in grey. Colour is called Egeo (Aegean) on the label. With such a name I'd expect a more pronounced blue tone to it, but it is a more neutral lighter grey. Bound brim at 6,7cm and the crown at 10cm at the front. It seemed to want a more diamond shape to it (or chicken foot; whatever you prefer), so that's what it got. Weighs 103 grams. The felt is dense and thin with a nice hand to it. Superb Barbisio quality.

Great find, Stefan! One of the rares for sure. Love everything about it, especially the color name ;) In the right environment the blue hues will come up, maybe that's the location we should plan our hat-gathering ;)
