It came from learning that Cindy @LuvMyMan was banned. I don’t know the circumstances

Cindy got a little het up on a certain thread & became a tad aggressive towards a couple of lady members, one of whom is a bartender. If Bob only took one small step over the line, Cindy took a giant leap, waving flags an' shootin' irons as she jumped. She certainly went out with a bang. Despite the affection some may have had for her, the bartenders didn't really have any other choice.

Yes, it would be great to see a dude like Bob back, without a contrasting sparkle, the consensus can become dull but generally on forums, life means life with no hope of parole.
I don't know who the head honcho is in this here saloon but he's most likely a reasonable guy, so maybe ? Possibly ? Presuming of course Bob wants to return.
Hell ! we're living through some weird s#/! at the moment, anything's possible.

I’m a seventy times seven kind of guy so I’m holding out hope for Bob. Everyone loves a comeback story!

I was curious if members who are banned are ever allowed to come back after a break. I understand the need to enforce rules and hold people accountable, but I’m all for mercy and second and third chances. I don’t presume to know the circumstances that caused the banning/suspensions, but I do know that we are less for not having some of those folks participating.

Do bartenders occasionally pardon past offenders? I’d love to see Bob Roberts let out of the doghouse.

Bob, like Cindy, also crossed a bartender. While it would be nice to have him back in the fold, there appears to be very little forgiveness on this forum.

Besides, at this point, I don't think Bob cares.

If I remember correctly Bob was "put in the penalty box" for a while and then was back in the game. He then posted some material that the bartender asked him not to post and it was removed. He reposted the same material and was banned. That is if I remember correctly.

You remember correctly. And the bartender took it fairly personally, if I remember correctly.

Great points. I agree.

No, but now you have me curious. It came from learning that Cindy @LuvMyMan was banned. I don’t know the circumstances and I’m not questioning the need to make sure everyone plays by the rules. I was just thinking that a couple of years in the penalty box is a long time and everyone should be given the opportunity to show they’ve learned their lesson.

This thread was resurrected from 2007. Some things to consider.....

If a person is "banned" it could have happened fast, or, shall we say, they eventually "earned it". In that I mean the new member who flames, rude, or comes here to sell, scam, troll.... we all recognize that immediately and all internet groups suffer those problems.

Others, who are "regulars" sometimes fray into subjects that have no place here, or become extreme, or a member becomes hostile, personal, or otherwise against other members. That is not tolerated. The Lounge is not that kind of place. In those cases, the offending member certainly receives "SEVERAL" warnings....ie. their posts have been seen or reported and then looked at. We PM the member privately, and then sometimes post an "open warning". You've all seen those.

However, like any company, "termination" is a confidential matter. The past couple questions here "what ever happened to so and so??" will not get an answer. We do not discuss YOU or THEM, removal is confidential and the person is told. If you know them personally and contact them outside the Lounge, that's up to you. If someone is "no longer here" they could have been "banned" or they could cancel their account on their own, deciding to go elsewhere.

And therein lays the point. The Lounge is not a dictatorship, even if Fruno thinks it is.
Well, it's a benevolent dictatorship run by a cadre of folks, some of whom run roughshod over the rules themselves. But that's how dictatorships go.
But don't let my disagreement with you Fruno lead to my being banned, I love your posts, and your occasional witty put downs. The spoken word is only a small part of any inter-communication, body language, intonation, eye contact, they all play a vital part of communicating. But with a forum there's only the written word. Without naming any names, I have upset one or two members here, there response has been to post back a sharp reply, that reply has been ignored. I take the view that you can't start a spat in an empty room, even though some try. By ignoring I have taken on board whatever has been objected to, agreed or disagreed with it, and got on with it, but to reply will only dig the hole deeper, so I'm minded of President Lincoln's sensible words of advice.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt." So to those who I upset and challenged me, now you know why I never rose to the bait.

What is the process by which we can lodge a complaint against a bartender for transgressing the guidelines?

OK, it's an oligarchy (since I don't know the word for rule by bartenders). However, we're here by the good graces and benevolence of the site owners. This is not a public commons. If we don't like it, it's our option to pick up our ball and go home.

I'm like you. I don't really come here to argue, and some have attempted to bait me into it at times. Easier to walk away, er...socially distance myself.

Thank you for such a well-considered response. I don’t doubt that due process was carried out and that the banning was just, I was just asking if the ban had to be permanent. If a member has earned being banned, like a sentence by a court, can there never be a time where the debt is payed and the member be allowed to return?

I know I don’t know, or have any right to know, the details of another’s fall from grace, but I do think that most offenses don’t merit a lifelong sentence. I’ve never been in your shoes, but from the outside looking in I think acknowledging that people make mistakes and people can also change is a good thing. I enjoy The Fedora Lounge, and I appreciate all the work that goes into keeping it working well.

If you think a bartender has run roughshod over the rules...then why not contact the head bartender with your complaint. He is a reasonable guy rather than an iron fisted ruler.

The particular individual who I have a problem with (and and to whom @belfastboy was referring to), is a darling of the FL and has flouted the rules about politics, in particular, since before I got here. This individual regularly rides the line and frequently crosses it. I assume they've built up enough political capital at the FL to do this with impunity.

I just generally try to avoid engaging them if I can.

Worse, if they're banned, they're ineligible to appear on the Hall of Fame ballot!
