Hello legalist folks, please do not crucify my strait away, but I have a lot to do with you law folks, since I am an indpendent commercial mediator :D

Common denominator: hats and life style, maybe philosophy of law, since I majored in ethics

I kindly apply for accreditation into this thread.

Miss Bella!
We've been waiting for you! We're not an intentional boys club but have just been waiting for an application for admission from a lady lawyer. And you're almost there!

What area of law do you see yourself prasticing in?

and in the meantime.....let me buy you a drink. The Aussie Shiraz is good!

Thanks! I do love a good Shiraz. Not sure what I'm going to do, probably commercial law, though I do really like the Appellate Court.

Tough chicks who don't take any crap?! Stop it Bella, you'll get us all excited!

As for commercial law - it is the safe option. If you are happy to be part of the machinery of a large law firm you can make some decent money there too.

Mr Dreispitz - welcome to the OBA. You're very welcome here. I'll put your application for associate membership to the founding members who I'm sure will be delighted to have our first member from the Continent.

Now, tell me, what German wines do you recommend - and who's your favourite German hutmacher?

Mr Darrow is one of my legal heroes. In fact, I began a regular feature in my column on legal heroes and Clarence Darrrow was the first one. The Monkey Trial still tickles me.

So, my fellow members of the Bar - who are your legal heroes?

Oliver Wendell Holmes. Fought bravely in the American Civil War, albeit for the wrong side. Was thrice wounded...almost mortally at Antietam. Was a champion of the 1st Amendment (Schenck v. United States (1919), Abrams v. United States (1919)) and great advocate of free speach.

IMO, one of the most underrated and under-appreciated of the US Supreme Court Justices.

Atticus, most definitely. His Honour was one of the world's great jurists in my view. You may be interested to know that my namesake Ephraim Tutt refers to Justice Holmes as a friend and colleague in his autobiography ("Yankee Lawyer" 1944) and quotes him with reverence. In particular, he quotes Holmes' favourite saying that "I am in the belly of the Cosmos and not it in mine" - as a reminder that all of us, and most particularly those called to the service of law, cannot act purely in our own self-interest, but must be mindful of the impacts of our actions on the Cosmos around us.

A great man and an inspirational lawyer indeed.

Hello all,

May I join please? I am a paralegal, re-entering the practicing world after just being laid off from the soul-killing investment world (yeah!!!).

Before I went over to the very dark side, I worked in legal services, primarily elder and mental health issues, and various Administrative law issues. I loved it but was tempted by the intersection of making more money and student loans coming due. But it was useless work, so after a few weeks of loafing I am going to call my old supervising attorney and volunteer my time so that I can hone my old skills.

Oh, and I have no hat :(

No, none of the above. I would say, stunning, voluptuous, mesmerizing…your finger curls, your eyes, your smile…in a word, sublime. (heavy sigh) And I think that thread has been pulled (really heavy sigh).

Hello Mr. Tutt,

favourite German hutmacher is easy. Hückel pre 1945.

With wine it is a diferent story. I come from the Munich area, where beer production is prominent and no wine is grown in the area. Therefore we are lucky to get all the international wine next to German.

I, myself did a bit of wine trading and imoprted wine from Italy during my university time and dealt with Spanish and Italian wine.

Over the last decade I specialised in Slovenian wine. To my personal taste one can find the best balanced wines and many positive suprises in the small country.

Unfortunately, there is very limited export of the excellent winemakers of the country. Many of wich are small boutique winyards with an outturn of sometimes less than 1200 bottles per year, per individual type.

So, they mainly cater to local slow food places and connesseurs. I very much like the local tinge, diferent soils and a huge variety of local old grapes that one cannot find elsewhere.

So much about German wine, that I very rarely drink. lol For recomendations of German wine, I should contact a wine friend of mine in Slovenia :)

I did try some Australian wine, though. Very bodyful and distinct. Sometimes a bit too prominent vanilla, however. Shiraz, I like.

Earl Warren. Lord, I can still remember how badly he was hated here in the South. He was actually a much better politician than he was a great legal thinker…but he figured out how to make The Court an instrument of change and he led (forced?) the United States through desegregation. He willingly dived right into the civil rights fray when few other white people in the judicial branch wanted to grapple with that thorny issue.

Dear MsStabby - with I name like that I feel obligated to ask if your real name is Bobbit?

It appears you are a vital part of the legal fraternity...or sorority...or whatever are are these days. As a matter of fact, just yesterday (which is probably 'today' in your part of the globe) I spoke at a conference for paralegals, legal assistants and those myriad of wonderful souls who keep we lawyers on track. They were a great audience. Very responsive and they were polite enough to laugh at my jokes! Ina romful of people I think there was only one fella apart fom myself. Perfect surrounds thought I!

And of course you can apply to join us. You will, I predict, be very welcome....so long as your real name isn't Bobbit.
Having no hat is a disadvantage, but curable. Do you have anything vintage?

What say you my fellow foundation members?

G'day Dreispitz,

Many of our members would, I'm sure, love to hear your recommendations on German Beer! Not being a beer drinker myself, I tend to foget about anything but wine. But the Bar caters for all tastes!

Slovenian wine eh? These folk have probably been tending their vineyards for generations catering for a small, local market. Old vines and generations of experience tend to make for a worthy product whatever the country.

Now.....do you have some pictures of your old Huckels you'd like to share with us?

Atticus, I admit that Justice Warren was not as familiar a name to me as the rest we've mentioned so far. But the guy certainly had some serious cojones!
