Hi, can anyone tell me anything interesting about this hat? It's actually my first proper hat I've ever bought. I believe it is a fedora, but it is made of cotton, not felt (as I believe is normal for a fedora, based on my research). The label says Anderson & Sheppard but this is a tailoring house, not a hat maker, so I wondered if someone makes this for A&S and they stick their own label on it? Does anyone know who this would be made by? And I'd also like to see pictures of people wearing this hat (or a similar one) in a stylish way if anyone has them!

A&S definitely does not make this hat in house.

They outsource it to a hat maker probably like Christies of London or similar.

How much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?

It says Made In Italy, so perhaps not Christies? Unless they make in Italy?
I paid £80 for it, it was reduced, I can't remember the original price but it was around £160 I think.

I'm thinking of buying a new panama hat and I really want a Monticriti but I have looked arround and almost all of them har black hat bands and litle color so I wonder if somone could help me with finding one? I also want it to be pure white and not natural color but it seem to be very few of them also sadly.

Newbie questions. I just got a Christy foldaway. It’s easy to put a crease and pinch into it but just as easy for them to go away. Is that just what happens with a folding hat? How do I ensure the crease and pinch stay in place?

Also any tips on how to make the brim look good? I’m trying to fold the front down but it seems to cause the sides to poof out awkwardly.

Steam is usually your best friend.

Photos of your hat will help even better if it's tips you want.

Anybody know where I can get my hats steamed and shaped in Brooklyn or Manhattan? My vintage beaver hats have gotten very soft I think from humidity in storage. How do I get that stiffness back in them?

These are things you could do yourself with little more than a tea kettle or another way of producing steam. A hat brush always helps in freshening a hat. Steaming a hat will usually help activate what shellac is in the felt.

If steam alone won't do it, you can mix up some weak shellac and apply. The quick-and-easy solution is the spray-on Kahl's Hat Stiffener.
