Hey gang. Shot in the dark question here - I need a Knox 20 sweat for my Knox 20. 7 1/4.

Naturally I've been looking in the Bay and Etsy for a lid I could take the sweat out of but thought I'd ask you guys if maybe someone has one.

Is there a way to run the serial numbers on union tags from Amalgamated Workers of America to date them and get more info. If so, can someone please tell me where, thank you

Hello all. Newbie here in Louisiana. I could use some information on shrinking a rabbit fur homburg. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I imagine your asking abt shrinking the sweatband? I invert it and saturate the inside of the sweat with distilled water and let it dry overnight inverted.

Yes thank you I did search around. The reason I asked specifically about running serial numbers from the tags was because I read that another person on here posted he did that once, I just can't find the post or user.

Yes thank you I have seen that but I saw another user claim that he was able to run the specific serial numbers somewhere. Oh well thank you for trying

Very welcome. Let me know how it works.
Just fyi. I'm a little nervous moving forward so I wanted to throw a few more details in (the hat). When I put it on and push it any direction I have about 5/16 of a gap between my head and the opposite side of the hat. Do you feel this technique still applies? If so, I will move forward today. Thank you so much.

Seems to me I remember reading here that none of the hat makers hand any serial or manufacturing numbers that contained dating info. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that none of the efforts to fit dates into any of the numbers worked out.

Yeah, consensus is, it's a crapshoot. You can usually get in the ballpark, but unless somebody wrote April 5, 1943 on your sweatband, or provides a sales receipt, you're just guessing.

Are you you looking for Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America? Or the United Hatters of North America? Or United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union?

This forum would be better suited to the hat specific unions. To my knowledge, there were no serial numbers, but there were numbers - perhaps associated with particular locals. This thread has the best discussion. Hats can be roughly dated using the transition of labels caused by the merger of related unions.

ACWA would be better discussed in the apparel threads.
