I'm sure a lot of guys are like me in that they've got hat blocks in their size to reblock the crown of a vintage hat to "start fresh" so to speak. I recently modified a hat block to my proper size which is 7 1/2 long oval.

Have any of You come across a hat block in long oval? Or is this something that is modified with a custom block or hat stretcher like Art Fawcett makes?

I sort of asked this in another thread by have my thoughts on how effective that thread will turn... Basically in short; what is the best way to go about dressing like this?

To elaborate, what are the names of the clothing pieces he is wearing (besides the fedora). If anyone could do this it would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, where could I buy the items from? To note, I'm only interested in the vintage clothing as it appears that he is wearing in the picture.

If you are interested in true vintage and not reproduced clothing, it will help if you weigh less than 200 pounds, for one thing!

But, what era are you focused on? 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s? The clothing will be slightly different for each.

For instance, in the full image, the hat would work for 40s or 50s as it looks like about a 2-1/2 brim. But the photo of the hat to the left is good for late 50s and 60s with the 2-3/8 or less brim and the shorter crown.

40s, 50s, again; details would be greatly appreciated since I'm such a newbie around here. :p

Long oval blocks can be made to order, and were available in times past. I have a set of vintage long oval band blocks, one long oval crown block (7 1/8) and several LO flanges (Lundberg of SF). Based on experimentation and comparison of the blocks I have, it seems the LO is a narrower version of the next size up. Thus a 7 1/8 LO is the same front to back as a 7 1/4, just narrower, and with 7 1/8 circumference.

Gentlemen, I just noticed that my favourite & #1 go to fedora is getting a crease in the brim. Is there anything I can do to stop this from getting worse? It's an Adventure bit by the way.

Thanx!!!
Charlie

Bruce, you need a hat saver in the Batmobile!

Seriously though, there must be some way you are handling, storing it, or wearing it that is causing a brim crease. Photos would help. Reshaping the brim by hand with steam would help but flanging & ironing is recommended.

Please pardon me if this has been asked before as I have searched and searched the web and forum. Some of the more distinguished members and hat makers may be able to assist. So, today I saw an older gentleman wearing a straw cowboy/western hat that seemed faintly familiar from my childhood. It was most likely from the early to mid 1970's I'm sure, but it had a crown taller than today's hats in a Canadian crown shape, with a very narrow brim. The brim was in the range of 1 3/4 to 2 1/4, but still curled as if it were a larger cowboy hat. His hat was made like this as it was welted and not cut down. It seems like I have seen a few rodeo clowns/bull fighters wear this hat years ago. Can anyone help me identify the hat brand or style name? It is NOT a Stetson Open Road. That brim is too wide and the crown is too short not to mention it is not a Canadian crown.

That's basically the crown shape but the brim is way too big...

It was also straw so I'm not sure if I could buy a straw hat and get it cut down like a fur hat.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and am looking for some help with a hat I have. It is a Zapf hat, and the only real relevant information that I have found about was from here. I think that it is long hair felt, but I have no idea how old it is or exactly what style it is. I'm not even sure if it is a men's or women's hat lol. Lastly, does anyone have any idea what it is worth? It does not fit me and since it is in such great condition, I would like to pass it on to someone that will adore it. I have done some research on the company that makes the hat, but have only found general information. Also, on one of the inner labels it says "Tamsweg," which I know is a town in Austria but I haven't been able to find if this brand of hat was crafted there. Sigh lol I haven't had much luck. Here are the pics:
