And It's fun to empty the bags!Since we frequently get questions on musty odors with vintage hats, & since it's the time of yr a lot of felt hats get boxed up in favor of straws I thought I would throw this out there.
Take any small cotton drawstring bag & fill it with 2-3 tablespoons of dust free red cedar shavings & throw the bag in the box or case with your hat. By Sept when you're tired of your straw hats your felts will smell nice & be odor free. Keeps insects out of the box too.
You can buy all kinds of cloth bags in bulk pretty cheap. Use only dust free red cedar pet bedding available at hardware & pet stores, not red cedar mulch. Here's what I use:
