Hey all, I asked this in the WW2 section and got nothing...
I recently purchased a WW2 AN-6505 Aviator’s Kit Bag and while it is in decent condition, it is pretty dirty.



I plan on using it, so I’d like to clean it up a bit. I’ve tried cleaning vintage canvas bags before, but whenever I have, the straps always shrink and pucker-up once the bag has dried even though I hand-cleaned it with cold water and hang-dried it in the bathroom.

I really dislike this look, and I’m hoping that someone can explain how I can clean and dry the bag without this happening again- especially in this area:

I have attempted to steam the puckers out before, but due to the way the straps are stitched down, it doesn’t seem to do any good. If it’s impossible, please let me know as well. I really prefer the nice and flat look like this:

Still a great deal, I would've grabbed it but it got deleted before I got the chance to send a message through asking for measurements. Also it was local pickup in Melbourne only and I'm a state away.

perhaps make the area damp again, and iron it both sides with a little pulling tugging to even the stretch of both materials while drying might help?

Either these were made under license or they were a trademark infringement, I don't know. I'm surprised the one in the link sold for as much as it did. These go for a lot less on Vinted. Personally I don't like their styling, they have a strong 90s vibe.

They’re not legitimate? I’ve seen a few of them around.

There are separate tags on these which just say Lewis leathers which makes me think they may be made under licnecne.

Either way I’m guessing they’re not nearly as good as the original Lewis leathers items?

This one has a similar logo but uses the aviakit branding. However I don’t see any mention of made in England which makes me a bit sceptical

Can a jacket like this be worn casually or is it geared for riding (so will look awkward when worn casually)?

Are the 3 squares on the back for armour?

those looked 80's, and the decoration thing is normally just a padding, its up to you really depending on your style, I mean if you wear cyber punk inspired look with reflective or yellow wrap around shades, and psychedelic camo pants stuffed into socks and a hi top basketball shoes, then yes you can finish it off with that futuristic jacket and a pair of uzi

I have a schott jacket made of their steerhide, and it has a finish which I've seen many people here call plasticky (which I agree with). How long does it usually take for this finish to fade?
