I think it really depends on your skin tone and your hair colour.
Neither choice is "wrong", but some will work better with certein complexions/hair.

Good observation, I've actually overlooked that a lot! I've got light skin tone and dark hair.

I ordered a trucker/western style jacket with snaps. But now I'm wondering if I shouldn't change this to a zipper instead of the snaps. Maybe it could look really cool and it wouldn't be everyday either. What do you think? Top or flop?

Wouldn't it look odd, a zipped trucker?

Not always!

Though I'm not sure how good it would look with leather. I think it would need extra details, like the pleats in the jacket above, to not look out of place. I've thought about eventually trying to get one like the picture above from Five Star, but I'm scared I'd mess up the measurements somehow.

You're absolutely right. it's kind of a mixture of shirt and jacket. but I take mine a little shorter. is just an experiment.

I think it will look good with a zipper if shorter with the v taper you have with your other jackets. I would probably make the collar a bit bigger as well. What are you doing for the back?

We're talking about this jacket in this leather

I think the detail around the chest pocket flap is over done, there is a yoke, and the the pocket flap is sewn to a rectangular piece of leather as base, and that rectangular piece is sewn over the yoke, mind blowing workaround for such flap. seems logical if the jacket is canvas, and the rectangular base is leather and the flap is canvas again, I can see the idea in that, but in all leather jacket it looks very redundant.

the rear yoke is curving like western probably looks nice if the front follow the same curving toward the center, since your hand warmer is curved too, maybe make a single or a pair of shield shaped patch pocket with matching flap or flapless a bit lower down the chest, rivets each corner of the patch pockets to repeat detail from the hand warmer

just my personal feel.

I like the leather texture, not sure of the color on my monitor it looks like orange

I think the zippers looks okay with a type 3 jacket (@Monitor has a cool motorcycle trucker jacket with buttons and a subtle zipper placement) but the design you are going for looks more of a leather shirt so it might look a little out of place

Those aging actors look bloody terrible in those film costumes (Pitt less so even though double matching denim makes me gag :D), but I know the kitsch retro look is big in places.

I do like a zipped denim jacket however. But a zippered trucker jacket made in leather... if anyone can make it work you can. I've considered it myself.

I think Pitt looks okay, but I personally don't mind the canadian tuxedo look. Mustard yellow turleneck + brown pants + a leather blazer though...That one can stay in the past.

I was taking pictures of this Ralphs-Pugh jacket when I was reminded of the label. I thought it might make an interesting mystery. The beautiful jacket is from the mid 1940s, but has nothing to do with the mystery. The label does.

The label is first used in the late 30s. I've dated another jacket with this label to this time. The late 30s time frame is essential in solving this.

Ralphs proudly advertised Steerhide when most makers were proudly advertising Front Quarter Horsehide. This is another story, but does help to solve this mystery.

If you see what I'm seeing please keep it to yourself and let others have some time. Maybe it is too obvious or maybe too vague.

All the clues are in the label. The jacket is just for show. The hard to see numbers are not important.
