Schott IS 674 MS Those were very popular back in the 80's. I believe they were introduced in the late 60's. I remember Kurt Russell wore one in the movie The Thing. Personally, love this so-called "bomber" jacket. Purchased my first Schott ($280) 184SM in 1983 in the gold lining. Got it stolen in Pamplona then, purchased another one and gave it to my good Italian friend in the late 80's. Back in the day, many bikers in Rome, where I was living, rode in them. I currently own Schott 684SM, a very similar, newer model with a removable liner and a mouton collar.

For all the talk of Perfectos online, this might be the actual most popular Schott ever. Put on a 70s or 80s film or look at street photos in New York or something and you see it on tons of people.

It's also extremely practical between the removable liner and collar. You can cover all kinds of weather.

Water got onto this natural leather (?) Californian vintage jacket and left these oil stains. Anyone know what can be done to make this look better? I’m not gonna dye the jacket. Thanks View attachment 798982

That might be hard to take out. Is it some kind of oil? If it is, do the smell test to find out which type it is. It is very difficult to remove an oil stain in tan leather. One approach is to blend the oil stain by completely staining the leather to make it darker. I would try to lightly remove the oil with a dry rag, and then, with a dishwashing soap and water diluted solution, I will try to clean it by using the solution with damp water. After much elbow grease, if you were able to identify the oil, lightly blend more of the same oil into all of the jacket to get the same consistency. Finally, use a clean, damp towel to blend everything. The water helps blend oil stains sometimes. Lastly, if you use a dye to hide the stains, the oil will be clearly seen despite the color change.

I totally agree. I love this jacket. Very practical and has a very nice fit. My first big jacket improvement was in this jacket. I used to call it the bear. I added a thick cream tan mouton vest and collar. I used a thick material similar to the car seat covers of the 80's

My European friend loved the look, and it stood out due to the mouton's color contrast. On cold days, you add the vest and collar, and you are set. I just got myself a very nice Mexican-imported mouton. It is so "suave", and not very thick. I will do another set for my current jacket. This time I have a nice machine to do the work. What makes it a simple project is that I reused the hardware from the donor collar and vest and it presto.

Is this genuine tearcore, or is this rot / dryness? Anything to be worried about?

Is melton wool lining on leather jackets unbearably warm for most of the year, or is it just me? It seems the majority of Rainbow Country Hercules jackets have a melton wool body lining, but that makes me a bit hesitant to buy one as it would make it essentially a winter only jacket.

That doesn't look like tea-core to my eye. The closer you look at a tea-core finish the more it remind me of a phony patina like you saw on some hotrods a few years ago. The appearance of forced aging. The right cuff of that jacket looks to my eye like it may have some age and wear related damage to the exterior layer which would definitely not be tea-core if that's in fact what it is. That said, either my eyes are not what you need reviewing the pics or the shot's a little fuzzy.

Those buttons don't show any indication of wear which is odd for a jacket that shows so much.

It's hard to tell from the pics. To me it looks like leather that was designed to have the top coat wear off quickly to give it that teacore look. It looks like a newer reproduction to me.

It's a nice jacket.
it looks similar to the fading on my buco jh-1, but a lot more extreme.

The jacket looks good from afar, but up close I don't know

Just swap the lining for cupro or light cotton.

And it’s supposedly thick cotton moleskin, not melton wool, but yeah it’s pretty warm, bulky and clings to your clothes, I highly dislike it, I already swapped it out on a bodie and I’m about to do it again on a mulholland, they fit much better afterwards too.

I wanted to be safe and not have anyone mess with the leather stitching, so I just cut the original lining off and left a border to sew in the new one, I left the original tag untouched on the bodie and will likely re-stitch the mulholland tags to the inner chest on the new lining.

I also kept the cutouts of the original linings just in case.

Any tips for maintaining/preserving Veg-tanned lambskin compared to chrome-tanned?
I already have a lanolin-based conditioner and a no-rinse wash for the leather and shearling. Would anything else be useful to have/know?
My first vegetable-tanned jacket is coming from Japan in a week or so

Saw this cool CHP-looking jacket. The seller says the brand is called ‘Expectations’. Has anyone heard of this?

Thoughts on the jacket?

Fun leather zipper pull detail on a branded garments jacket I just picked up, may have to make some of these for some of my other jackets.

Some kind of ***k in and around the zipper of my jacket. Since I bought it second hand I've got no idea what it could be. Is this common with over conditioning? The rest of the jacket feels alright but I'm wondering if it's just got stuck in a hard to reach place.

To that end, does anyone know the best way of cleaning this? The zipper is quite hard to pull already. I've read around and mild soap and water, followed by graphite on the zipper seems to be the best idea but I'm hesitant to use water on a place where it won't evaporate very quickly.

My jacket has a case of absorbing skin oil at the collar. I tried some suggestions from this thread, had some success, then hit a wall. Wouldn't have been too worried about it in the first place, but it started staining shirt collars.
Anyway, since I am at the point of diminishing returns on trying to get the oil and stain out-
What are recommendations for a top coat to reseal the jacket, please? Open to clear or a reddish brown similar to the unstained color of the jacket.
Thank you!
