Here are some more details on the iphone, direct from an ATT employee:

No one-touch dialing (two touches at a minimum)
Vibrate mode is included
Voice dialing is not mentioned as a feature, though it's not specifically excluded either
Users can have a voice conversation whilst browsing the web "when WiFi access is available"
iPhone users will not be able to conduct IM conversations with instant messaging users
Emailing videos and pictures are a go, MMS is not supported
MEdia Mail won't be used for ringtone and answertone downloads
MEdia Net, MobiTV, and Cellular Video are (unsurprisingly) not available for the iPhone
iTunes will sync iPhone with the Address Book on Macs or Outlook/Outlook Expess on PCs
No GPS or TeleNav support, sorry Google hopefuls

So, for $500, you can have something less than any of the smartphones out there. Get your checkbooks out!

Cingular is giving me $300 off this phone since I have had so much trouble with my blackberry, but I am going to wait for a while--I won't be one of the people camping outside the store.

You plan on attending the Queen Mary event in 2007.
On the flight, you can watch Casablanca, call ahead for your ride, keep up with Fedora Lounge posts, order the newly published book about your favorite Golden Era star, email your spouse back home about the new purchase, listen to the Andrews Sisters, review photos from the QM '06 and snap a pic of the flight attendant.

All on the same device, pretty much all at the same time.

Year - when do you ever sleep? Or find time to think??;)

I want an iPhone, but I still would use this Bluetooth handset with it:

Blending old with new is fun.

Heh. There's one available over here that is the old classic rotary phone complete - old stock modified with a mobile's guts so that you have yourself a genuine mobile phone but it looks like the old rotary - full size and everything. I'm halfway tempted, it'd be really cool just not very practical to cart around!

I'm a real mobile devotee... for several years after moving to London I only used a mobile - the only reason I have a landline at home at all now is so that I can get an internet connection. The iPhone is perfect - or will be in a few generations. The harddrive is still smaller than I'd like (though saying that, my first laptop back in 1999 seemed very flash then and it was only 2GB / 32 RAM!!), and the camera spec is disappointing at only 2MP. What this really needs to be the killer product is something like an 80GB HDD (can't be hard, given how small the 80GB iPod is), and a 5MP camera or better. Eventually, I see this sort of thing overtaking the laptop altogether, hell, even the home computer in most case - think about it, if you can carry something that small around with you, and when you get to your desk plug in a USB hub which allows you to plug in a keyboard / mouse / screen (or more likely run them all off a bluetooth connection to the hub), why would you carry anything bigger? With a better camera (At least 3MP), I would definitely jupm on one when my contract comes up for renewal, assuming it was available as a freebie, but in several generations' time i think it will be an incredible product.

I want an iPhone more than I want to have Scarlett Johansson's baby. :)

But will wait for Version two.

Spoken by a guy who bought - and still uses - the very fist iPod.

But I SO want one. :(

The mob has arrived!

Wait until the gliches are fixed during it's second run. Apple releases their glichy products early all the time.

Yip, I'm waiting for a later generation model when Orange start offering me it for free in the UK... I've got til next July before my next free upgrade anyhow.

The real genius of it I gather is that - according the the buzz, anyhow - it has two batteries - one for the phone functions, one for the music player end. Means you can use it as a player without being concerned you're going to run down your battery and have no phone.... Sounds ideal as long as you can still access the songs from the phone end. My Sony Ericcson I never use as a player - I uploaded a whole bunch of my MP3s onto it to use them as ringtones. :)

The phone itself is very sleek, and it's nice because it doesn't stick out unless you want it to, so you don't have to answer questions from people. The keyboard is nice, it's just that you have to get used to it and trust it. Overall it is a very sleek and impressive machine.
