That's interesting. The two type 3's I have in 40, have measurements more aligned to this
I actually own and am selling a 38 Type 3. The shoulders and chest fit similar to the 38 type 2 but the jacket length and sleeves are both shorter.

38 Type 3

CHEST: 21 1/8"
SLEEVE: 24"
SHOULDERS: 18"
LENGTH: 24 3/8"

Looks nice. A lot of their riders have the ugly split seam in the back.

Price is pretty high.

From my exp in the japan second hand market, the y2 don't hold their value as well as rmc/fc/fw.

I own the Sumi double riders, fits just slightly larger than a 40, more like a 40.5. The hide of this thing is beautiful!

Y’2 leather produce amazing jackets. They are more like a European fit, or what use to be referred to as “true to size” fit. I’ve worn a few of their different styles, they definitely have their design perfectly dialed in.

Steer Type III by Y’2. This one of my favorites!
These look so great.
I've been researching a lot of full grain Roughout jackets (shirts too!) Rugged West (Pakistani made I think),Iron Heart,RRP,Golden Bear & their collaboration with..is it Nokoma? ( the Baseball glove manufacturer)..
Also Simmons Bilt's Ranch jacket.
Drakes do a nice shirt they describe as Roughout,it's lovely thick triple stitched Italian suede leather, however,as a little bit of a noob I'm confused as to why it's not smooth inside,as I thought all true Roughout was like that (eg Black Bear's Rough-Rider shacket or Y2's Roughout Chore coat)..I wondered if it might not be full grain leather reversed but some kind of split hide..(it is very nice though & I wear it at every available opportunity)..
Master Supply do a Roughout 'Field' jacket/shirt.
Regency Gem,Fortela etc cetera
Vintage (1960's?)Levi's Roughout type III jackets are great but hard to find in ought but small size..
Satchel & Page's Montgomery jacket is nice but it looks a bit too long for my taste..
There are others (I may come back & edit some in) but this Y2 in camel is just such a big beauty..
My girlfriend is getting very annoyed with my roughout addiction, she buys jackets & shirts cheap from charity shops so I always feel guilty when I've made an expensive purchase..
I tell her but babe we've got a few to sell on eBay to recoup..
That one's not really cutting it anymore..
Do any readers have any good excuses they give their partners?
Anyway, regarding the length of the Y2,I don't think it is TOO long..the 40" is actually more like 44" I think it said,so if the shoulders are'nt too small that may be the way to go..at least for me (Y2 camel Roughout type 3 size chart screenshotted).
I also included pictures of a (presumably true Roughout?) offering from Iron & Resin & also Simon's Bilt's desert Roughout Ranch jacket, which is nice but when it's worn open, the shearling doesn't go all the way down-it switches to quilted (eg) lining around the bottom third.

I have an HVR-42. The leather is super thick and tough. I’d put it in same category as Horween CXL in terms of stiffness and durability. The pattern is pretty good. The back and gusset system is similar to a Vanson minus the underarm footballs. It is very slim fitting similar to an aero board racer. it’s clearly made for the Japanese market, but if you are lean, you can pull it off.
