Jim Peters Jr said in an interview that starting with Calvin Coolidge in 1923 Peters Bros gifted Shady Oak hats to 9 US Presidents. In another interview I found where one of the 3 (Jim Jr., Joe Jr. or Brad) said the tradition stopped with President Clinton. I take that to mean President Clinton was not gifted a hat. Sifting thru various articles & interviews I've come up with confirmation of 7 Presidents who were gifted
Shady Oak hats.
Calvin Coolidge
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Dwight D. Eisenhower
John F. Kennedy
Lyndon B. Johnson
Gerald R. Ford
James R. Carter
President Coolidge returned his hat saying it was not his style.
Jim Peters Jr. said not only was President Johnson gifted a hat, he was a regular customer.
President Carter returned his hat saying he could not accept gifts.
Surely President Reagan was gifted one? And being from Texas it's a sure bet that President George H.W. Bush was gifted one also. Then it stops with President Clinton. Reagan & Bush would make up the list of 9.
