What can you do with a Snowy River to make it look like something else?
Any example images ? I only found a post about making another style into a snowy River , nothing
about Snow rivers into something else. I own 5 of them and kinda want something else but curious before
I mess one up. I have no qualms about cutting brims if it takes that.
(secretly I want to see one with a cattlemen crease )
I knocked the crown out of one and gave it a Gus crease.

Some time ago, I posted how I turned a vintage Snowy River into something different. I don't know what to call it, but I 'flattened the brim to make it look somewhat like a cattleman/tablelands. If you dig thru my posts, there are photos. the side brims were seriously cuved up when it arrived in the mail from the previous owner.

I've done it again, I've bought another Akubra. I got a Balmoral on sale from Brisbane hatters. I like my Hemp OR so much that I decided I needed a hemp Akubra. The Balmoral is much stiffer than the Stetson Hemp, not a bad thing just different. I also got the Akubra Stampede String, I think it works with the Balmoral.

Looks great!
I was very close to purchasing one of those recently. I have the Akubra Range - same shape, but with a pug and a wider brim. Still might pick one up one day, but for now, my summer hat collection is about to get a Wolfbrae boost.

Greetings from Brisbane with lots of Akubra news. First, Brisbane Hatters is closing. You'll see it on their website. Doors close next Tuesday according to the shop keepers I met with this morning.

Second, I arrived in Brisbane for a one-day stay over on my way home to Japan, and as my good luck would have it, today, Akubra have opened up a new pop-up store in Brisbane. I was one of the first customers in the store! The media were even there taking photos. This store seems to replace Brisbane Hatters, who have been owned by Akubra for years. The new store is located a few blocks from the Brisbane Hatters location in a fancier part of town next to the big designers like Chanel, Cartier, and TAG Heuer. So, it looks like Akubra is being positioned as luxury brand now. There is new branding on the hats now and new bags to carry them home. Let me share some photos of the new location, the old location, and the new branding.

I managed to come away with two new Akubras which I'd love to share, but it seems I can't post any more photos.

It seems that I can't post more than 4 photos at a time, so let me make multiple posts. Multiple posts are out now as I cannot upload photos.

I'm having trouble uploading photos for some reason. I'm trying to upload the new packaging now. Perhaps I've used my allotment of uploading megabites or something. But the website is not accepting my jpgs. Hmmm. . .

I don't know, guys. I have a bunch of pics to upload, but I the website keeps giving me some message about the file not being what it expected tho they are just jpgs. I hate to cause suspense, but I cannot upload any more images right now for some reason. Apologies. I have shots of the new packaging and branding on the hats. I'm certainly happy to share some Akubra news with you all, but something strange is up with the image uploader. I imagine that I'm only allowed to upload so many photos a day. Sorry. I'll do what I can to upload more photos when I can.

Oh, oh, that may portend a healthy price increase.

Declare yourself a luxury brand (or imply it) and charge accordingly.

Ok, well, I'm trying to upload from Japan now. Seems the file extension of .jpeg was part of the problem. I have to upload as .jpg.

Here's the new packaging. These bags are big. Two outer sides have the printing and the other two sides have the embosssed logo. I managed to get it back to Japan. Hats come wrapped in paper.

I had my heart set on a Cattleman in sand. I got it in the new branding! It's my first Cattleman. Most of my hats are city hats, but I like this one a lot.

Note the new color of the sweatband. It feels softer than the old ones. New tags for the size and care instructions. Feels great on the head and has that new Akubra smell!

With Brisbane Hatters closing, I actually went over there first cuz I didn't even know that the new store was opening that day. The people at Brisbane Hatters told me about the new store opening that very day, and they encouraged me to go over there to check out the full range of Akubras in inventory. So I did, and got my sand Cattleman as previously posted. The thing is that Brisbane Hatters actually had one of the limited-edition Cattlemans in Fern Green in my size. Because it has the older branding, the new store didn't even carry these fern Cattlemans, and production has now ended on them. Well, green is my favorite hat color and I had always pined (pardon the pun) for a green Cattleman. And lo and behold there it was! So, I put the fern Cattleman on reserve before heading off to the new store.

After finding my Sand Cattleman, I went back to Brisbane Hatters and to mark the end of an era in Brisbane, I made it a two-Akubra day!

Oh, and in a super cool move, Brisbane Hatters still had some Akubra felt bags left over from a promotion two weeks ago, and they gave me one!

It was only fitting that I got my Fern Cattleman from Brisbane Hatters because it was at this very store where I really saw an Akubra for the first time back in August of 2024. I wanted to get a hat from there at that time but circumstances prevented me from buying one that day. That's another story.

At any rate, now I had a bit of a problem on my hands. I had two Cattlemans in Brisbane, but only one head. So, how was I supposed to get both of them back to Japan on the plane? Well, I begged my wife to wear one back, and she agreed!

Careful now. The green one looks so good on her that she might just want to keep it for herself. ;)
