Nice and tall!
The Cattleman is just a regular teardrop crown, isn’t it? I’m sure some people have done it, and I’m sure it would look great. I settled on a centre dent and front pinches after almost going for a diamond crease.Has anyone put a cattleman bash on a Fed IV? If so would you post a picture. Just received my Fed IV Deluxe and wrestling with which bash to use. Considering a modified cattleman. Any thoughts welcome.
Right, gotcha. I personally struggle with the Cattleman crease, but that’s just me. Lots of people love it. If you like that crease, then I say go for it, though I suspect the Camp Draft would be better suited to it.Um, I don't think he's referring to the Akubra Cattleman, but to the traditional cattleman crease seen on many western hats, which features long center and side dents.

You are correct. I have a traditional cattleman on my Stetson circa 50’s OR and have had it on my Camp Draft. Just wondering how it would look on a Fed IV since it has a different crown shape, before I start working on it Right, gotcha. I personally struggle with the Cattleman crease, but that’s just me. I'd worry the chunky fedora blocking might make it look a little silly, but it depends on one's face shape and all that. Would almost certainly end up a "Gentleman's Hat" and at that point you might as well just wear your OR or find an older Resistol Fort Worth if you're looking for high crown, medium brim. I'd assume a Fed IV would need a shellac pass or two to really hold a cattleman properly, and then you're getting into territory where westerns tend to be better suited out-of-the-box already.Has anyone put a cattleman bash on a Fed IV?
Strand Hatters has some Collys hidden behind their search button so I snagged one; to preserve the soon to be extinct species for posterity. It's basically an XL Cattleman or a Cattleman is a mini Colly?

The Fed would be cool in a Cattleman. Here's a squatter with a Cattleman crease. View attachment 684577

The Squatter has a smaller crown. It looks very much like a territory - does it have the two large vent holes on each side? If not, I wonder was the Territory a vented replacement for this? Is it unlined?
The Territory in black looks great (makes me think of the late Terry Pratchett). I've been tempted by one of those for a hot climate felt. Probably would have jumped on one already had the brim been 3", though comparing relative sizing here, I don't think I'd be too worried by that extra inch. I love the big grommets for airflow.
Good option for comparison - I looking into the Squatter and the Fed back to back a while back, and as best I can make out the Squatter is basically the same hat with a bound brim.
