This is the first time my eyes have seen silver belly outside a computer monitor for years. My CD is a creamy off-white, with a definite tan shade to it. The color reminds me of a good cup of coffee with too much cream in it. Hope that helps.

I agree with this post. My CD silverbelly is decidedly creamy white with slight tan tones. Zero grey tones in it.

I've been admiring the Stylemaster hat for a while now and posted a question in the Q & A section about Akubra sizing.

On a whim, I took a drive to Delmonico hatter in New Haven and spent close to 2 hours in Akubra heaven trying on all the various models.

It turns out that in the Akubra world, I'm a size 58. Every model in size 59 fell down to my ears. In Stetson's & my newsboys, I'm a 59.

I liked the Adventurer model, but the 3 inch brim is just too much for me. The Snowy River is also nice, but I'm not sure how often I'd wear it around town.

It came down to the Stylemaster & trying to choose between the Carbon grey or the Fawn Acorn color.

I finally decided that the fawn was too close to my Stetson Chatham Sovereign hat in coloring.

I'm the proud owner of an Akubra Stylemaster Carbon Grey.

I was just wondering if you've checked out the Fed IV and the Campdraft styles, as the Stylemaster was my first choice when I first got interested in hats about ten years ago but quickly led to the other styles. This seems to be the pattern, almost without exception, here on the Lounge, and I'll be interested in seeing if you gravitate in that direction. I should also mention that my initial purchase of the Stylemaster also led me into the custom makers that you can find here. I only wish I'd had the opportunity to visit a brick-and-mortar shop like Delmonico's, as there's nothing like seeing how a hat suits your face in a mirror to figure out the styles that suit you best. Anyway, congrats once again and all the best.

I totally agree. The Stylemaster and a precursor The Madison were my first fedoras. I don't wear them much at all as now I prefer the higher, fuller crowned, wider brimmed fedoras. When I place the Stylemaster on my head now my reaction is always...."damn, that looks small!"

At this point, the height of the crown on the Stylemaster is perfect for my height, build & face. It might be because I frequently switch between newsboy caps and hats. A taller crown looks out of place on me.

I totally agree. The Stylemaster and a precursor The Madison were my first fedoras. I don't wear them much at all as now I prefer the higher, fuller crowned, wider brimmed fedoras. When I place the Stylemaster on my head now my reaction is always...."damn, that looks small!"

It's a good copy of the Stetson Whippet and I love mine. I have several.

I have a bit to add on my Akubra experience. I live in the Seattle/Everett area and journey the the small retail store in the online outlet of David Morgan.
The Stylemaster was what caught my attention also. I was working my way through wool fedoras and wanted to feel/ touch/ try on a fur felt. What I discovered, I liked them all....but these were the first I had worn with leather sweat bands. Game changer...I stray from the story I want to tell. David Morgan has a set of shelves in its retail space with returns & rejects. Most are fine hats with some minor flaw, but all are at $60 each.
That day I walk away with the Adventure and never regretted it....Moonstone is so easy to wear with everything. Now I have 4, hemp Planter, Bushman, Snowy River.......But my next will be the Sydney.
As for size I am a 60 LO....61 is the size I wear in Akubra.

I’d like to add rivets for ventilation to a Snowy River. Can anyone here recommend specific products for doing this? Maybe post a link for me? High quality stainless or copper or brass or some other non-rusting rivets, and a good riveter too, and advice if you’ve ever done it before...

I know hatters offer ventilation grommets as a service. I’m not personally a fan so I’ve never perused adding them. SunBody offers a kit that might work for you.

Back in the day companies like Hatsdirect and anythingaustalian would add them when you ordered. Just ask. Keep in mind if you do, you may be voiding any return policy.

Exactly. I have a broad, wider face and widely-spaced eyes (Scots-Irish ancestry), and I find I look terrible in a hat with any sort of taper to the crown, especially center-dented ones. I think I mentioned on another thread that the first time I saw myself in a mirror wearing a Borsalino Bellagio I saw Zippy the Pinhead staring back at me - I couldn't get it off my head fast enough. It really does all depend on the shape of your own face and head.

Not my first Akubra but I really like my Stylemaster. Worn often. The Akubras are stout, resilient hats that hold their shape very well. Also pairs well with an Irish coffee.

Yes, I bought it specifically wanting an OR clone in this color. It turned out to be a nice soft hat too, luck of the draw!

My small collection of Akubras features a 70's era Drover, a Campdraft, Snowy River, and a Territory. All are fawn color except the Campdraft which is what I think they called 'bluegrass'.
I wear the Territory quite a lot during Spring when we're out on the property doing winter cleanup.

I have a big Territory that I removed the braided hatband & pushed it to open crown, took the packer draw out of the brim. Wanting a 1-1/2 to 1-3/4" ribbon for it, then I'll get inspired to finish it.

Hello everyone! I have a seemingly stupid question, but I am completely serious. I am relatively new to Akubra hats (or any felt hats for that matter) and have two Cattleman hats, one sand and one fawn. Over the past year it has gotten slightly wet with rain a handful of times, but nothing major. It hasn't been overly sweaty either and is pretty clean. About a month ago, my family went camping and it started pouring just as I was hooking up the camper to go home. It got pretty darn wet, but held up well. Here is where my question comes in. As we were driving home I noticed a strong stink that stunk to holy heck (replace that "ck" with "ll". I kept telling my wife that it "stinks like sewage in here", but she couldn't smell it so I thought she was either crazy or that her nose had seized up. Later, when I took my hat off to put it on the dash, it was then that I realized it was my hat. It stunk SO bad. It has gotten very wet once since then and the same stink occurred. Is this normal for an Akubra or fur felt hats in general?? If this is a normal thing for an Akubra, is there any thing I can do to prevent the odor from happening when it gets wet? If it is not normal, I swear to you that I am not a gross, smelly human being with poor hygiene and would like your thoughts on why it might be happening. Thank you all!

Jack, it was never really put away or stored wet. It's always stored on a hat rack stair post in the house. Hmmm, so far it sounds like its just me...
